Who Owns Nissan Of Streetsboro?

By:

NOTE TO THE EDITOR: We first covered the story below in 2017. Whether the auto dealer is closed has been unclear at times. Not at all. According to its owner, Nissan of Streetsboro has been operating under new management for more than a year.

Two major auto dealerships abruptly shut down, leaving more than 100 employees without pay and automobile owners rushing to figure out what to do next. This has caused alarm among customers.

On Monday, employees at Nissan of Streetsboro and Nissan Airport in Cleveland were informed that their jobs will be lost.

Both of those dealerships had product on the lot and in the showrooms as of Friday night, but they were both empty.

When they saw that the doors were shut, more than a dozen people pulled up to the dealership on Brook Park Road on Friday, appearing unsure of what to do.

They were informed that the Nissan dealerships had shut down by a sign on the door.

When customers tried to phone both shops to schedule an appointment for service, they realized something was wrong.

Bjork then attempted to schedule his appointment online. The issue was that there were no open dates.

At that point, he made the decision to travel to Nissan of Streetsboro to learn more.

Driving by, it appears that things are proceeding as usual, with a sizable amount of merchandise on the lots. However, since Monday, none of the cars have moved.

Customer Hilaria Wilson reported, “I stepped up to the entrance and there was a sign saying, “until further notice, we’re closed.”

The dealerships have had three different owners in only one and a half years, according to News 5.

The former owner, who sold it to a group of Florida-based investors, claimed that it simply wasn’t financially feasible for him.

Just six months after purchasing the dealerships, the current owner, Automax LLC, closed them.

Attempts by News 5 to contact Automax and its parent company Aviate Capital on Friday were unsuccessful each time.

Nissan issued News 5 the following statement:

Customers who may have ongoing issues with the dealerships should contact them, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

The consumer protection division of the attorney general has received 70 complaints against Nissan of Streetsboro and Airport Nissan since 2005.

Former owners don’t know the reason for the closure.

According to Mayor Glenn Broska, Nissan Streetsboro, which was situated at the intersection of Classic Drive and Route 14, has shut down.

According to Broska, Bernie Moreno, president of Bernie Moreno Companies, is the owner of the structure.

The dealership was formerly held by Moreno, who sold it to Chris Lucas around 18 months ago. According to Lucas, Lucas then sold the business to Aviate Capital about a year ago.

He said, “Bernie did indicate they are looking for a new dealer. “That spot is too good to be vacant.”

In response to a request for comment, Moreno stated he was unaware of the reason the dealership shut down last week. Additionally, Lucas said he was unaware of the dealership’s closure.

Aviate Capital is a “private equity organization focused on acquiring lower middle-market companies,” according to its LinkedIn page. After acquiring these businesses, it attempts to enhance them through improved management and capital expenditure.

Nissan’s closure raises more questions than it does answers.

Editor’s note: Nissan of Streetsboro has reopened under new management since this article was written.

Nissan of Streetsboro was abruptly closed, and over two weeks later, there are still more questions than answers.

The Nissan dealership has had three owners in the last 18 months: Bernie Moreno Companies, Chris Lucas, and the rumored present owner, Automax Streetsboro LLC, which has a mailing address in Delaware, Ohio.

James Reinart, the general manager of Ganley of Aurora, claimed to have served as Nissan of Streetsboro’s general manager two years prior. He stated that he does not want to “leave out in the cold” customers who have purchased vehicles there recently.

He claimed that Nissan customers may bring their vehicles to Ganley of Aurora, which is on Route 82 just west of Route 43, and take advantage of complimentary car washes and rentals. Additionally, he stated that Nissan vehicles would be transported to Ken Ganley Nissan and Mayfield Nissan for warranty and recall service.

He stated, “I was the GM there for about two years. “I know most of those people who need a car right now and have developed ties with them.”

According to him, the Nissan dealership in Streetsboro closed because the parent business had mismanaged it and it was out of money.

Nissan of Streetsboro has been the subject of 38 customer complaints to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office this year, 10 of which are still unresolved. One complaint was submitted on September 29 and nine more have been submitted after October 24, or about the time the dealership closed.

The website of the Ohio Secretary of State lists five limited liability companies with names that are subtly different from “Automax Streetsboro.” Automax Streetsboro K, LLC, Automax Streetsboro N, LLC, Automax Streetsboro V, LLC, Automax Streetsboro Holdings, LLC, and Automax Streetsboro, LLC are the names of these entities.

Although Moreno and Lucas both claimed they sold the dealership around a year ago, none of them claimed to understand why it shut down.

The mayor of Streetsboro, Glenn Broska, admitted he also has no idea why the business shut its doors.

In light of the fact that the Honda and Kia stores are doing well, he claimed, “It wasn’t because they weren’t selling automobiles. Only a few people—probably a very tiny number—know what happened, and they’re not telling us.

To recover the $206 the Kent dealer claims the Streetsboro dealership owes it, Klaben Ford Lincoln of Kent filed a breach of contract lawsuit against “Automax Streetsboro, LLC” on November 1. In Portage County Municipal Court, the case has been filed.

The structure, which was constructed by Geis Companies in 2004, is still owned by Moreno. The Classic Auto Group, which still operates Classic Honda across the street, was the dealership’s original owner.
