The “360 Modena Ferrari,” which was previously the pride of Sachin Tendulkar’s fleet of high-end vehicles, is now the valued possession of a businessman in the city.
Raj Hans group Chairman Jayesh Desai says he bought the car a fortnight ago.
Desai told PTI, “I have purchased the 360 Modena Ferrari automobile straight from Sachin Tendulkar with all legal documentation,” but he would not say how much.
Desai, a luxury automobile enthusiast, said, “It was my goal to drive a Ferrari and now my wish has come true.
According to Desai, the Ferrari, which was given to Tendulkar by racing star Michael Schumacher, will be the first racecar in his collection of opulent automobiles. He added that his most recent purchase was a valued asset because it belonged to the legendary batsman.
When questioned if he knew Tendulkar or was friends with him, he responded, “Kindly ask me only about the automobile and nothing about Sachin.”
After it was revealed that Tendulkar had obtained a customs duty waiver despite receiving the Ferrari as a gift and not as a winner in a competition, the Ferrari became embroiled in controversy in 2003.
The finance ministry had excused Tendulkar from paying nearly Rs. 1.13 crore (almost USD 245,000) in import duty for the car, which had a value of Rs.
After the Indian batting legend matched Don Bradman’s total of 29 Test centuries, FIAT, the company that builds high-end Ferrari automobiles and is supported by Tendulkar, gave him the car as a gift.
When Tendulkar and Ferrari’s Formula One driver Schumacher met in 2002 at Silverstone, England, Schumacher gave Tendulkar the car on the brand’s behalf.

Fiat will receive a lot of favorable press in India as a result of the action, but the truth is that they should have done this in the first place: bring the Ferrari to India by paying the relevant import duty, and only then give it to Tendulkar. Giving Tendulkar a gift from overseas on which he would have to pay a 120% duty would be unfair, and the celebrity-struck government’s decision to waive the import duty owed on the automobile would suggest that Tendulkar was above the law. Fiat has now accomplished exactly what they ought to have done in the first place, putting an end to a dispute that was detrimental to all parties.
