By pushing or pulling the button, you can open and close the trunk of your X5M from within the car. There is nothing unusual about it, but in order to close it, you must pull and hold the button for a short period of time. Just so you’re aware.
The requirement that a commitment to acceleration and speed be matched by an equal aspiration when it comes time to halt is never taken for granted!
I’ll try once again. The hatch was not moving, but I heard a buzzer as I pulled and held.
You should feel more at ease now. You’re not holding the button down long enough, in my opinion, for it to close.
Bimmercode can be used to modify it to one touch for opening and closing the trunk from the inside.
Thank you; I’ve never been interested in BimmerCode’s expert side because I was worried I could mess up something.
This might be covered in a separate section. Do I only need to purchase an OBD Link, hook it in, then purchase the BimmerCode app in order to have access to all of this functionality?
Purchasing an OBDII device and connecting it to your phone is a good idea. Bimmercode’s complete version is required; I believe it costs $30. really easy to complete. Check out this

I was unsure if the ability to close the hatch from the inside by holding down the trunk button worked on my 2015 X5, but I’ll give it a shot when I take my car out of the garage (i live in NYC). One of the few things, along with the power folding mirrors not closing when locked and the lack of a button to turn on the headlight washers, that annoyed me about my X5.
Hands-free while moving your feet
The fourth generation (G05, 2019+) cars have sensors under the rear bumper that let you open the tailgate without using your hands, making it simpler to use with both hands full. A remote control key for the car must be within reach, or roughly 3 feet behind the vehicle.
You can open the tailgate without using your hands by giving the back bumper a slow, forward kick. After that, step aside. Avoid contacting the bumper. The upper and lower tailgates will both open as the indicators flash four times.
Make a slow kick motion under the back bumper once more to automatically close the upper and lower tailgates.
My wallet is not there; it is close to the hood latch. In fact, neither the remote nor I can close the tailgate from the inside.
Additionally, it’s absurd that you can’t lock the gate (with comfort access) without the keys. While I was unloading the groceries, my wife drove off in the other car. She had three keys in her purse. So until she returned, the tailgate remained open. (could not locate the spare key in the house’s drawer.)
All I wanted for my E90 was the angel eye DRL, therefore I started using ncs expert and e-sys.
Bimmergeek’s license cost about $170CAD for all reading and $100CAD for just coding.
That cost too much for what I needed. Credit/coding should be done, just with OBDeleven on VW. My money would be theirs.
However, it was so simple to use that free program after seeing a 15-minute video on how to do it that I never bothered to purchase an app license.
Bimmercode costs little. It costs roughly $31 USD to download to your phone from the app store. Then, for roughly the same amount, you simply need to purchase one of their suggested OBD port dongles; I choose the VeePeak. Self-coding is then incredibly simple.
Yes, it’s a great tool and deal. Additionally, it is not limited to a single vehicle. Three further vehicles were already purchased by me.
FWIW, I am aware that it appears as though I was criticizing you for being stupid or whatever. Sorry, but I didn’t mean to do that. I just find it amusing how easy solutions to problems are frequently overlooked, including by myself!

But if you want to access the trunk from this position, a rectangular tab can be found inside the door of the trunk. When the tab is removed, a wire ought to follow. The trunk will open if the wire is pulled.

Is there a hands-free tailgate on the BMW X5?
BMW How-To demonstrates how the top and lower tailgates of your BMW X5 or BMW X7 may be operated automatically with Comfort Access and Smart opener. The tailgate can be opened and closed without making touch as long as you have the remote with you. Signal interference may be caused by electronic gadgets. Two sensors detect kicking foot motion when you are directly behind your BMW, opening the tailgate. Both tailgates automatically close when the button on the interior of the upper tailgate is pressed. The vehicle is locked when the top tailgate has been closed when the “lock” button on the interior of the tailgate is pressed. The remote control must be outside the car, close to the tailgate, and the driver’s door must be shut in order to achieve this.
The lower tailgate opens or closes when the button on the lower tailgate is pressed. The tailgate can be closed with the same kicking motion when using the Smart opener. You can modify the settings for the tailgate’s opening height in the menu by selecting “CAR,” “Settings,” “Doors/Vehicle access,” and “Tailgate.” When using Smart opener or the inside tailgate button in your BMW, you can now decide whether to merely open the upper tailgate or both tailgates. You can choose whether you want to use the remote control to open the upper or both tailgates in the Key Button Assignment option.
