Toyota might produce an electric minivan.
The Japanese manufacturer Toyota stated on Tuesday that it will work with Suzuki Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Co., and Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies (CJPT) to produce small commercial electric vans in 2019.
To collaboratively develop the BEV system, Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota will each contribute their expertise in the production of small cars, while Toyota will contribute its electrification technology. CJPT will support the setup and planning of energy management systems. According to Toyota, such a pooling of resources and knowledge would enable the businesses to produce a vehicle that is more reasonably priced than many of the commercial EVs currently available on the market.
Toyota said that social implementation initiatives in Tokyo and Fukushima Prefecture will use the fuel cell e-vans it produces.
Along with CJPT, Hino Motors, and Isuzu Motors, Toyota has disclosed plans to create light-duty fuel cell electric trucks for the mass market.
The business said in a statement that hydrogen-powered light-duty vehicles are perfect for middle-mile deliveries to supermarkets and convenience stores because they can quickly refuel and because they are constructed with refrigeration and freezing capabilities.
