The NHTSA said on Monday that Toyota is including 1.5 million more recent Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the fuel pump recall it started earlier this year. The total number of vehicles recalled since January now stands at 2.7 million, or almost every model produced by Toyota and its premium brand Lexus.
The problem is a malfunctioning fuel pump that supplier Denso placed on specific vehicles at specific times. Lower density impellers in the fuel pumps supply pressure to the fuel injection system. The gasoline pump may gradually deteriorate as a result of the defective impellers. A check engine light or other lighted indications may be visible to owners of impacted vehicles. At low speeds, the engine may operate erratically, fail to start, or stall. According to Toyota, the automobile could stall out at greater speeds on rare occasions. Just under 700,000 vehicles from the 2018 and 2019 model years were included in the first recall due to the impeller problem, which was announced in mid-January.
