Without a heart transplant, the 2022 Toyota Tundra’s metamorphosis would not have been complete. The twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine, which can produce up to 389 horsepower and 437 pound-feet of torque, has taken the place of the previous V8 engine (apparently just 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet in SR trim). These numbers are increased to 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet by a hybrid variation known as the i-Force Max. Unexpectedly, standard 87-octane fuel is advised.
Every model has a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. The new Tundra can tow between 11,000 and 12,000 pounds, depending on configuration. 1,940 pounds are the payload.
Particularly when combined with the electrified engine, the drive is fairly believable. Fun fact: When you press the accelerator, a synthetic V8 engine sound plays through the speakers, and it’s more enjoyable than you might imagine. The Tundra feels more stable and surefooted because to the greatly improved ride and handling provided by the much more rigid chassis. Meanwhile, comfort levels have greatly increased.
How about fuel efficiency? The ratings for the hybrid version won’t be available until next spring, but converting from U.S. mpg numbers, the gas-only 2022 Tundra obtains a combined 12.4 L/100 km (10.7 L/100 km on the highway, 13.8 L/100 km in the city).

How far can Tundra travel?
Toyota is known for producing reliable cars that you can count on for many years. This is also true of the Toyota Tundra. This tough truck has devoted drivers who have taken such good care of their vehicles that they have survived for a million kilometers. Sadly, not every tundra will be around forever. Your driving habits, maintenance routines, and the local weather all affect how long your truck will last. Rust, mechanical problems, and accidents are the main causes of Toyota Tundra replacement. Smart truck owners should use a custom Toyota Tundra cover to preserve their truck and adhere to a maintenance routine to get the most out of their truck.
Toyota Tundras are long-lasting vehicles. Although the astounding example of one million miles is a tad exaggerated, Tundras regularly have more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. They are among the top ten American cars with the longest lifespans. Not everyone intends to keep their automobile for at least 100,000 kilometers. Putting enough miles on the odometer can take a decade or longer, particularly if you travel less than 10,000 miles per year. When that time comes, it’s possible that newer versions with superior amenities will be available, luring Toyota Tundra owners to upgrade. As a result, many Toyota Tundras have lower average mileage at trade-in.
If you maintain your Tundra properly, it can last for many years and hundreds of thousands of kilometers. To keep operating smoothly, all vehicles need regular oil changes. Your Tundra will require additional routine maintenance as you log more miles on it. The typical mileage points for replacing important truck parts are listed below.
How dependable will the Tundra be in 2022?
Toyota has earned a reputation for producing the most dependable trucks in the world. Consumer Reports awarded the Toyota Tundra the highest expected dependability rating of 5/5 for 2021. But for the third generation of the Tundra, Toyota abandoned tried-and-true technologies in favor of greater fuel economy and a more comfortable ride. This resulted in a 3/5 expected dependability rating for the 2022 Toyota Tundra. What is happening here?
Can I fuel my Toyota Tundra with E85?
Only Solution. Only our Sequoia FFV and Tundra may use E85 (Flex Fuel Vehicles). E85 fuel can harm an engine or emission system when used in vehicles that aren’t made for it.
What gas is preferable, 87, 89, or 93?
ATLANTA
Half of the east coast is experiencing a fuel scarcity as a result of the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack. Due to this, many gas stations are experiencing shortages, higher gas prices, and gallon restrictions.
Many people have inquired as to the distinction between standard grade and premium fuel as some gas stations only carry standard grade fuel due to fuel shortages.
In order to determine the risks associated with not using the proper fuel in your car, our VERIFY team consulted with the experts.
WHAT WE KNOW
A standard grade 87 or 89 is advised for the majority of vehicles on the road. It’s perfectly fine to fill a normal vehicle with premium gas between 90 and 93. According to auto experts, using premium fuel won’t harm a basic automobile in any way.
Can 87 and 91 gas be combined?
Yes, drivers are allowed to mix the two fuel kinds. According to The Drive, the mixture of gas types will produce an octane level somewhere in the center, which the vehicle “will survive.
What happens if 87 octane fuel is used in a 93 octane vehicle?
Do not become alarmed if the manufacturer of your automobile or truck suggests premium fuel for your vehicle but you instead use normal. Even though premium is advised, you are not required to use it; the engine can run just as well on standard gas.
You can run into issues if you use standard fuel when your manufacturer calls for premium. How well your car or truck will handle normal petrol depends on the sophistication of your fuel system as well as other elements like how your engine is tuned, what the timing is, and how hot it runs. Most of the time, the car will run just fine, although you might notice less power and reduced gas mileage. Because the fuel isn’t burning properly in more acute cases, you might hear engine banging or valve chatter. You should take it to your mechanic because these things might harm your engine.
How many octane should I use?
The octane rating of a fuel is represented by the numbers 91, 95, and 98. The amount of compression the fuel can withstand before igniting is determined by this. The compression increases as the number rises.
High-performance engines may produce greater power from a high-octane fuel by using more compression. However, the design of the engine is to blame rather than the energy contained in the fuel.
Engines are built by auto manufacturers to run on fuel with a minimum octane rating. Therefore, you shouldn’t use a fuel that has a rating that is lower than advised. Putting 91 in a car that takes 95, for instance. However, doing the oppositeusing 95 in a vehicle designed for 91should be acceptable.
If you’re unsure of your vehicle’s minimum octane rating, check the fuel flap’s inside. When it reads “Only unleaded gasoline signifies that 91 octane fuel is acceptable. A fuel flap that reads “Only premium unleaded is allowed, thus you must use 95 or more. You must use 98 if the fuel flap instructs you to do so.
Incorrect fuel octane levels can interfere with the ignition process and result in loud pinking or pinging, which can potentially harm your engine.
What is the Toyota Tundra’s most typical issue?
Full-size pickup trucks like the Toyota Tundra have been manufactured since 1999.
While older models had a V8 engine, the most recent model has a potent turbocharged V6 and a hybrid drivetrain.
The Tundra’s excellent performance on and off-road is complemented by a cozy and clutter-free interior.
The Tundra has many excellent qualities, but it also has certain drawbacks. Below, we go over the most typical Toyota Tundra problems.
Which pickup truck is the most durable?
Some folks want to go through the truck buying process every two to three years. They appreciate owning a truck with the newest updates, technology, and aesthetics. Another group of folks wants to find a truck that will last for a very long time and then drive those wheels off! Reliability is the main factor to consider if you want a truck that will last for a long time. If you belong to the latter category, you are probably aware that finding a truck that will last requires some investigation. You must identify the vehicles that have been shown to last the longest and experience the fewest problems in order to locate one that will serve you for at least 200,000 kilometers. The top five vehicles with the highest likelihood of lasting 200,000 miles are described below. Statistics on which trucks may have the greatest lifespan are provided by an iSeeCars study.
Ford or Toyota trucks, which is superior?
Ford is the undisputed champion in terms of truck capabilities. Our Tundra could tow 11,120 pounds and carry a maximum payload of 1,740 pounds when fully outfitted. The Ford, on the other hand, featured a 2,100-pound payload capacity and a 13,900-pound towing capacity with its Max Trailering package. However, even with a less robust trailering gear, the F-150 would still be able to haul 180 pounds more than the Tundra. Capacity and ability, however, are distinct concepts. We’ve always thought the F-150 to be a reliable towing vehicle, and the Tundra shown an equal level of ability when towing our prominent two-horse trailer.
We love Ford’s optional Pro Trailer Backup Assist technology, so we were excited to test out Toyota’s Straight Path Assist system. The main distinction between the two is that while the Tundra simply maintains the trailer’s straight course, the F-150’s dashboard dial allows the driver to maneuver the trailer in reverse. With Straight Path Assist, you can let off of the steering wheel once you’ve steered the trailer in the desired direction, and the Tundra will continue to guide itself in that direction. The Tundra performed a decent job of keeping the trailer on the straight and narrow, but getting the trailer oriented in the appropriate direction is where inexperienced trailer-backers truly struggle. When backing up a trailer, Ford’s system (as well as Ram’s Trailer Reverse Steering) reduces anxiety by 95%; the Toyota, perhaps 50%. Why Toyota didn’t develop a comprehensive trailer-backing solution baffles us.
