The Toyota Hilux pickup truck is now available in India, and costs range from 33.99 lakh for the Standard MT trim to 36.80 lakh for the High trim with all of the options (ex-showroom, India). Since January, reservations for the pickup truck have been accepted with a 1 lakh deposit. Toyota’s facility in Karnataka is where the Hilux is put together using CKD kits in India.
The double-cab body type of the Toyota Hilux is unique and functional for the Indian market. Although it shares a fundamental design with the Fortuner, it gets an entirely different face with a bigger hexagonal chrome grille and swept-back LED headlamps. The fog lamp insets on the front bumper are black to contrast with the crisp styling, and a rugged-looking skid plate is added.
The length of the Hilux is most noticeable when seen in profile. To further emphasize its rugged appearance, the wheel arches are covered in thick, black plastic covering. The Hilux rides on 18-inch alloy wheels that are similar to those on the Fortuner in India, but it also has a hefty dosage of chrome to suit local tastes. The Hilux and Fortuner have a lot of similar switchgear and interior trim. Dual-cab utes must by necessity be useful. More is expected of them than almost any other car model available. Consider doing trade labor, going shopping, hauling a load of yard garbage to the dump, and then being put in charge of essential 4X4 and camping responsibilities as well. The inside of the HiLux is more useful right away. It would be simple to maintain the hard plastic liner, and the simplicity is something to be cherished. Although it had the feel of a commercial vehicle in every way, it would be incorrect to describe it as “utilitarian.” Since the time when apprentices used to sit in the back seat of cars with their legs crossed over their chests, this market segment has unquestionably advanced significantly.

Due to the deep top lip, it might serve as a little improvised table when closed (a neat feature we discovered at happy hour around the campfire that night).
The Navara’s leather interior seating should be easier to maintain than the HiLux’s pov-pack, and as we’ve already noted, it’s just a “nicer place to be” in general. Oh, and Nissan made a great choice by including a sliding rear window, which must be mentioned. This is a very useful function while backing up or when there may be smelly pets (or photographers) in the back.
Can Hilux be used off-road?
It quickly became evident why the Hilux has long been a favorite among off-road fans after a quick trip up to the Glasshouse Mountains to give it an off-road shakedown. The Hilux offers a fantastic combination of off-road prowess and on-road ride comfort, and the engine delivers respectable performance.
On our model, the suspension has seen better days, the ground clearance is on the low side, and the brake performance is iffy. After driving a few rutted-out hills, it became clear that a rear locker would significantly improve off-road capability. Additionally, the 3.0 liter turbo-diesel could always use a power bump despite the respectable performance it offers.
The Hilux will also get a TJM suspension kit, the aforementioned APAC 4×4 custom tray, a TJM Pro Locker, a Yakima LockNLoad roof rack system, new wheels and tyres, and a performance increase, among many other improvements.
