And that one was, at least for us, that Toyota has been upfront about not bringing the GR Yaris to the American market for a very long time. For rally-obsessed Americans, there is still good news: Toyota recently introduced the GR Corolla, which we’ll be getting here, and it seems like it’s going to be fantastic.
The GR Corolla receives nearly all of the same niceties, including the boosty, rev-happy three-cylinder turbo, while the GR Yaris is based on a European-market car Americans don’t get. To make up for the Corolla’s heavier weight, Toyota even added 32 more horsepower for the US market. Peak torque of 273 lb-ft is accessible between 3000 and 5500 rpm, and total power increases to 300 hp at 6500 rpm. The GR Corolla only has a manual transmission, so drivers will need to be vigilant to keep the vehicle moving.

The hot hatch’s Euro-spec version, which we rode in the latter part of last year, was hailed as the most dedicated driver’s car you could purchase outside of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The GR Yaris and the Yaris that used to be sold in the United States are completely unrelated (which was based on the Mazda2). According to Toyota, the potent two-spirited door’s 257-hp, 265 lb-ft 1.6-liter turbo I-3 engine lets this rocket reach 62 mph in 5.5 seconds. It also has its own unique platform. Is the Yaris GR AWD?

Engine
The 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine produces 360 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 4,600 rpm and 261 PS at 6,500 rpm. It is the smallest and lightest 1.6 turbo engine in the world as well as the most powerful three-cylinder engine. The engine’s piston with multiple oil-cooling jets, dual-path fresh air intake ducting with a big air filter casing, ball-bearing turbocharger, D-4S port, and direct fuel injection system are some of its standout features.

Transmission
Happy enthusiasts! The transmission is an iMT, or automatic rev matching, six-speed manual transmission. The ratios are correctly set to guarantee that the working engine range is utilized to its full potential in each gear.
Chassis
The Toyota GR Yaris’ bodyshell receives more spot welding than a conventional Yaris hatchback, as well as longer lengths of structural adhesives for increased joint rigidity. The rear axle has a double wishbone system, while the front axle has a MacPherson strut design. A sports-tuned electric power steering system is present in the steering. The Performance Package also includes Torsen limited-slip differentials for the front and rear axles (LSD). Drivetrain
The Toyota GR Yaris is notable for both its GR-Four permanent all-wheel drive technology and its high-revving, distinctive 1.6 Turbo engine. Between the front and back wheels, it provides three clearly defined torque divides. The setup is front biased in normal mode, receiving 60% of the entire engine torque. When in Sport mode, the split converts the GR Yaris into an all-wheel drive hot hatchback that is rear-biased, with 70% of the torque now going to the rear wheels. The GR Yaris can now have a lot livelier back, a more responsive front, and can even induce large drifts as a result of this! The torque is shared equally between the two axles in the Track mode, which is the last mode available. With the front and rear Torsen LSDs, this provides the optimum traction and efficiency coming out of corners. The GR-Four system depends on a robust multi-plate clutch that is electronically regulated and electromagnetic solenoid-actuated. The torque bias changes as the friction forces on the clutch plates are altered.
