Toyota Alabama will establish a new four-cylinder production line with this investment that will be able to build engines for both combustion and hybrid electric powertrains.
The 1.3 million square foot Huntsville facility will also see an additional 114,000 square feet of floor space added. This will be the plant’s sixth building extension and eighth investment project since it opened in 2003.

Following a $288 million expansion project that also generated 450 employees at the Huntsville factory, Toyota celebrated the opening of a new twin-turbo V6 engine line in October of last year. This was the largest hiring need in Toyota’s history in Alabama. The twin-turbo V6 engine is also produced on the new line in a hybrid electric configuration.
The hiring for the project increased the plant’s overall employment to 1,800 people and raised its yearly manufacturing capacity to 900,000 engines.

That does not imply that unionized businesses are less effective. It simply indicates that they have decided to produce cars that require longer to make.
Consider it this way: Toyota would create more Tundras and fewer Camrys if Tundras were selling more than Camrys.
