How Much Does A 1994 Toyota Camry Weigh

The L and LE models of the 2020 Toyota Camry weigh 3241 pounds. Afterward, the Camry XLE weighs either 3351 pounds or 3530 pounds, with the AWD engine weighing a little bit more. The XLE V6 version of the Camry is 3549 pounds heavy. Depending on the trim level chosen, the SE weights 3340 or 3530 pounds.

Naturally, some would claim that it screams, “Hey, Honda, why don’t you have a V-6 in your Accord coupe?

Toyota has to steal, um, borrow the starting shutdown feature from Cadillac’s Northstar V-8 engine because there is absolutely no audible sound or visible proof that 24 valves are pounding underneath the hood. This feature prevents the starter from re-engaging while the engine is going. With the starter shutdown, the starter disengages if you unintentionally turn the key again while the engine is idle, sparing you the humiliation of hearing metal scrape against metal.

The 1994-model-year Camry coupe is available in DX, LE, and SE variations. An optional 3-liter, 188-horsepower, 24-valve V-6 with a four-speed automatic is available for the LE, while the DX and LE come standard with a 2.2-liter, 130-horsepower, 16-valve four-cylinder engine. Only the 3-liter V-6 with automatic is available with the SE. We put the LE coupe with a V-6 engine to the test.

When you first turn the key in certain cars, it’s quiet. The problem is that once you press the accelerator pedal, they stay unconscious. Other vehicles are silent when the engine is first started, but when forced to respond, they grunt, growl, or groan.

Even when you push the 3-liter, 188-hp, 24-valve V-6 through its paces, the Camry coupe starts and stays quiet. The V-6 nevertheless boasts a very decent 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway economy rating while quietly exercising its muscles.

Smooth and quiet engine and transmission, nimble but supple suspension, and responsive power steering that makes changing your direction as easy as possible. You have the impression that you are driving a $50,000 LS400 from Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus.

The dimensions of the two-door coupe are very similar to those of the four-door Camry sedan. Although there is adequate space in the back seats, there are still the same risks as in any coupe when moving past the front seats. A pachyderm can skate in a figure 8 more gracefully than a human can fit in the back seat of a Camry coupe.

To safeguard passengers in the front seats, dual air bags are standard. The cost of adding four-wheel anti-lock brakes is an additional $950. At a time when the Japanese are being forced to write window stickers in chalk rather than permanent ink due to the rising value of the yen, ABS is optional to keep the base price low.

The starting price for the Camry LE coupe is $21,218. You may want to wait until May to check out the $27,000 Buick Riviera coupe with a supercharged V-6, dual air bags, basic anti-lock brakes, and traction control after spending $950 for ABS and another $950 for a motorized glass sunroof.

Four-wheel independent suspension, 15-inch all-season radial tires, dual body-colored power mirrors, body-colored bumpers with front air dam, chlorofluorocarbon-free air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, AM-FM stereo with cassette player and power antenna, rear window defogger, fold-down rear seatbacks, cruise control, and a tilt wheel are all included as standard in the front-wheel-drive LE coupe.

The $23,000 price tag is significant, especially for a coupe competing in a sedan market.

This results in the Camry’s other flawtwo doors. Customers aren’t lining up to buy midsize coupes. Thank you, the Camry, Accord, Taurus, Cutlass, and Grand Prix sedans are doing great, but the Thunderbird, Cutlass, and Grand Prix coupes are garnering a lot of attention. In a few months, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo coupe will also join the list of inaction.

Sedans are in demand since they now offer above-average performance and above-average aesthetics compared to the majority of coupes. Since the sedan’s center roof pillars were dechromed or blacked out and the enormous, clunky chrome door handles were replaced with body-colored flush handles, sedans have drawn enthusiasts who prefer coupes. The package is completed with peppy engines. The transition of the sedan into a car as appealing and sporty as the coupe is credited to the Pontiac Bonneville SSE.

Some claim that Toyota released the Camry coupe just because Honda released the Accord coupe and not because customers demanded a coupe from either company.

Toyota defends the vehicle by noting that it only plans to produce 20,000 units annually at its Georgetown, Kentucky, facility because of the car’s limited market potential. Additionally, some of those will be shipped to Japan.

The 1994 Camry has ABS brakes, right?

The Camry borrows heavily from the Lexus ES 300, which, in our opinion, established the benchmark for refinement among midsize and compact family vehicles. It is more refined, quieter, and better constructed than some luxury sedans that cost thousands more. Given that Toyota’s typically high resale value and solid reputation for durability, preowned models of the Camry should be priced slightly higher than their compact rivals.

Overview

1992 saw a makeover of Toyota’s most popular model, with new sedan and wagon models getting a driver-side airbag as standard equipment. Less than an inch was added to the wheelbase, but the body of the Camry was now six inches longer and two inches wider. The 4-door versions came in the Deluxe, LE, SE, and new XLE trim levels as well as the base trim level. A 2.2-liter 4-cylinder with 135 horsepower was the standard powerplant. A 3.0-liter V6 engine with 185 horsepower was an option on all versions. The Deluxe variant came with a 5-speed manual transmission that wasn’t offered elsewhere. On all models, antilock brakes were an option. Like its predecessor, the new Camry utilized a large portion of the ES 300’s front-drive chassis components.

Yearly Updates

Entry-level DX (Deluxe) Camrys come with an interior painted oak and bodyside moldings that are color-keyed as standard. Glass with a bronze tint is now an option for all models.

With the addition of a new 2-door coupe body design, a standard passenger-side airbag, and a more powerful V6 engine, Toyota makes significant news for 1994. The coupe’s notchback style is identical to that of the sedan’s, with the exception of a slightly lower height and a different roof. The coupe is available in the entry-level DX, midrange LE, and sporty SE models. The 2.2-liter engine with 130 horsepower is also a standard feature across the entire Camry series. The 3.0-liter V6 in brand-new 1994 Camrys with a V6 now has an aluminum block and produces 188 horsepower.

Minor aesthetic changes have been made to the 2-door and 4-door sedans, and all 1997 Camrys now adhere to the government’s stricter side-impact standards. The top-tier XLE sedan now comes standard with antilock brakes. The DX 4-door wagon has also been eliminated, although the rest of the lineup from last year is still available. The standard 2.2-liter engine has undergone fresh tuning that reduces its horsepower (to 125) in order to comply with stricter pollution regulations in every state.

After a minor redesign the previous year, the popular front-drive Camry experiences few changes this year. For 1997, Toyota launched a completely redesigned Camry.

Engines

The 2.2-liter 4-cylinder standard engine is shared between the Toyota Celica sports coupe and the Camry. It has 145 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm and 130 horsepower at 5400 rpm. A 3.0-liter V6 engine, the same one Toyota uses in the Lexus ES 300, is an option for all versions. It generates 195 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm and 185 horsepower at 5200 rpm. The Deluxe variant comes included with a 5-speed manual transmission, which is not available elsewhere. The 3.0-liter aluminum-block V6 in the new ’94 Camrys replaces the old V6 and produces three more horsepower188 at 5200 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. This V6 also drives the Lexus ES 300, the Camry’s more expensive sibling, much like the previous V6 did. Starting in 1995, 4-speed automatic transmissions come with standard electronic controls that modify shift patterns to correspond to driving style. Finally, due to revised tuning put in place to meet tighter emissions restrictions in all states in 1996, the standard 2.2-liter engine loses 5 horsepower. The modified engine generates 145 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm and 125 horsepower at 5400 rpm.

Road Test

Even with an automatic transmission, the 4-cylinder engine’s smooth running and responsiveness provide the Camry sedan with sufficient passing power and acceleration. In our test, we averaged 10.9 seconds to 60 mph and nearly 23 mpg. Although the V6 is faster, it consumes more fuel (we averaged about 18 mpg in our test). However, the V6 is arguably the most well-kept engine in its class and functions in tandem with an exceptionally well-tuned automatic to produce performance that is almost vibration-free.

Camrys have a smooth, absorbent ride that quickly absorbs most bumps and ruts. Additionally, it offers strong stability in turns and excellent traction on wet surfaces. Despite being in the tiny class because to its 103.1-inch wheelbase, the Camry offers a larger cabin than many midsize vehicles. Be aware, nevertheless, that some people find the backs of the rear seats to be uncomfortable due to their stiffness and excessive recline. The floor is large and flat and extends well forward when the trunklid is opened at bumper level. Split rear seatbacks can be folded down to expand storage.

Ratings are given on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. With the exception of Value, these figures show how the car stacks up against all other cars, not simply those in its class.

Trouble Spots

The expansion valve issue results in the air conditioner’s progressive loss of effectiveness. (1992-93)

Rubber check balls that are part of the A-40 series automatic gearboxes may shift harshly as a result of shrinking, blowing through the plate, and becoming loose. (1992-96)

When the head gasket of a 3.0-liter engine fails, coolant might enter the cylinders. (All)

It is difficult to start after a cold soak because the ignition coil voltage is flowing to the wrong ground. (All)

A self-lubricating substance was used to modify the front and rear sway-bar bushings. (1992-95)

On sedans with spoilers, the support torsion rod needs to be modified if the trunk won’t stay open. (1992-96)

The SRS wiring-harness grommet and the fresh-air intake plenum are the two places where water leaks occur on the passenger side. (1992-93)

Recall History

A steering wheel nut that has not been correctly tightened may produce vibration and sloppiness; eventually, the nut may come off and the shaft may separate.

Do 1993 Toyota Camry airbags exist?

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky built Camrys in Georgetown, Kentucky for the North American market. [21] With the introduction of the 1992 model year Camrys in October 1991, automatic transmissions replaced manual transmissions as the only available options on all bar the base and sport models. The SE model differs from the LE and XLE in appearance with the addition of a standard V6 engine, alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, black side mirrors, as well as the sports suspension from the Lexus ES 300.[23] The range-topping XLE was outfitted with leather upholstery along with an electric sunroof and a power adjustable driver’s seat. Both of these were added in 1992 in addition to the DX and LE trims. Starting with March 1992 manufacturing (mid-1992 launch), the station wagon body designs were available with a new seven-seat configuration, as opposed to the conventional wagon and sedan’s five seats. For sale to Japan, these station wagon body variations were also produced in right-hand drive form under the Scepter brand. [25] Wagons were also made in Australia. The 1992 and 1993 Ten Best lists of Car and Driver magazine included this generation of Camry.

There weren’t many differences between the Scepter and the North American Camry. The Scepter used the same 3VZ-FE V6 engine throughout the entire model cycle, although the North American models got a new V6 engine (1MZ-FE) in 1993. The wraparound Scepter headlamps (19921994 versions) have integrated fog lights and a dual-filament bulb. The 19921994 model tail lamps did not have red reflectors or side markings, unlike the North American Camry. In some models of the Scepter, an updated temperature control unit with an LCD display was also included. The “Scepter” trunk garnish, fender marker lights, various options, and interior trim are other changes.

For the 1994 model year, Toyota introduced a coup version of the Camry with styling that was very similar to the four-door model, which helped to boost sales a little[26]. This vehicle would be discontinued for the next generation and replaced by the Camry Solara[27]. Also in this year, the 3VZ-FE V6 was replaced by the new aluminum 1MZ-FE V6.[13] This new engine co-occurred with the standard fitment of dual front airbags, whereas the .[28]

For the 1995 model year, the Camry received a facelift in the third quarter of 1994. Design patents were submitted at the Japan Patent Office on May 8, 1993, under patent number 820638-002. A revamped front fascia with new front turn signals and redesigned headlamps[29] and an updated rear fascia with body-colored plastic between the tail lamps where the model name “Camry” was printed were among the minor cosmetic changes. In place of the black plastic on lower trim levels and the red plastic on higher trim levels of the 1992 to 1994 vehicles, this was used. Another modification, this time mechanical, occurred in 1996. The 2.2-liter engine was slightly detuned to 93 kilowatts (125 horsepower) to meet higher emissions standards.[12][13] Additionally, in 1996, the distributor’s cam angle sensor was replaced with a crank angle sensor to produce a smoother idle.
