Toyota produces Suzuki automobiles?
Toyota and Suzuki signed a deal on Wednesday to start working together on electric vehicles and other in-car technology. Both businesses are able to benefit from this relationship by utilizing their own skills. Suzuki will have access to Toyota’s hybrid electric vehicle technology and systems while Toyota will benefit from Suzuki’s knowledge of small car technologies and its success in countries like India. This includes starting production on a brand-new hybrid vehicle for Suzuki in the Toyota facilities in Burnaston, England, and Deeside, Wales, in late 2020.
This is a step in the right direction for Suzuki in terms of prioritizing electric and hybrid vehicles in the future. As new law continues to put pressure on manufacturers to lower the carbon emissions of their new vehicles, this will become more and more significant.
With intentions to jointly create future technology, the relationship will go beyond simply transferring technology between the two corporations. Toyota President Akio Toyota assured the public that the alliance would not lessen competition between Mazda and Suzuki:
“Hybrid technologies are anticipated to play a significant role in many markets, as they have in the past, when it comes to electrification, which is anticipated to make greater strides. In order for electrified vehicles to benefit the environment, they must be widely accepted. We anticipate a larger adoption of hybrid technology thanks to our new agreement, not just in India and Europe but also elsewhere in the world. The expansion of our business relationship with Suzuki, from the mutual supply of vehicles and powertrains to the realms of manufacturing and development, will, in our opinion, help us maintain the competitive edge we require to endure this once-in-a-century period of dramatic transition. By putting our strengths to use and learning from one another, we hope to increase the competitiveness of both of our businesses.
Osamu Suzuki, chairman of the Suzuki Motor Corporation, agreed and said:
“I stated that we would work toward success on a worldwide scale when we first revealed the breadth of our partnership in May of last year. Since then, I have observed development in the collaboration, so it gives me great pleasure to declare the status of the cooperation on a global scale, covering Europe and Africa. We also appreciate Toyota’s generous offer to allow us use their hybrid technology. We shall keep making every effort.
Since Suzuki currently offers some excellent hybrid options on the Suzuki Ignis and Suzuki Swift, we’re eager to see what this cooperation will add to the Suzuki lineup.
