How can I tell if Android Auto is compatible with my car?
Even an older vehicle can use Android Auto. All you need is a smartphone with a respectable-sized screen running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher (Android 6.0 is ideal). Your smartphone’s implementation of Android Auto may be made almost as good as the dashboard version by adding a few useful apps and phone settings.
Not always, Android Auto was this simple. When it first appeared in 2015, Google’s futuristic infotainment system required either a brand-new vehicle or costly aftermarket hardware to operate. The following year, Google released a stand-alone Android Auto app for cellphones, enabling anybody with an Android phone to utilize the streamlined menu system for music, navigation, phone calls, and messages. Google Assistant and all the voice commands you would use with a Google Home speaker are now supported by Android Auto, which was recently released.

Does the Toyota RAV4 support Android Auto?
The LE, LE Hybrid, and XLE are the three trim levels for the 2021 RAV4. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the board for all three model levels. The 7-inch infotainment screen is standard on all three models, while an 8-inch screen is optional on the XLE as part of a better sound system package. The plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime also provides drivers an optional 9-inch display screen and standard smartphone connectivity.
The infotainment system offers smartphone connectivity capabilities in addition to Amazon Alexa support, Bluetooth, a USB media port, a three-month SiriusXM subscription, Wi-Fi Connect, and a one-year trial of Toyota’s SafetyConnect.
Roadside Assistance, Emergency Assistant, Stolen Vehicle Locator, and Automatic Collision Notification are some of the capabilities offered by Toyota SafetyConnect. Toyota’s commitment to safety is demonstrated by the addition of this feature to every RAV4 model.

Which is superior, Android Auto or CarPlay?
At I/O 2022, Google revealed a significant UI overhaul, but it will take some time before it shows up on your dashboard. Split screen mode, always-on navigation and media, and improved Google Assistant Integration are all part of the UI makeover. Here is a sneak preview of the upcoming Android Auto UI update.
As you can see, Google was inspired by CarPlay, and when the new user interface is widely adopted, both platforms will look quite similar to one another and function similarly.
There is currently no multitasking option available in the Android Auto interface, which simply displays one app on the car’s screen. On the other side, since iOS 13, CarPlay has provided a dashboard UI that combines music, maps, and Siri suggestions onto a single screen. This makes it simpler to quickly access what you need without opening multiple apps.
Left: The dashboard for CarPlay, which displays numerous apps on a single screen. Right: The sole app displayed by Android Auto has a dock at the bottom of the screen.
Similar to this, CarPlay automatically displays shortcuts to the most recently used phone, music, navigation, and settings applications on the left, making it simpler to access them when operating a motor vehicle. However, Android Auto has a constant dock at the bottom of the screen that shows the music or navigation app and has buttons to change tunes or arrows with your route advice, so it’s not all horrible. Unlike Android Auto, CarPlay allows you to use the on-screen keyboard to type text without having to put the car in park or apply the parking brake. Last but not least, since the passenger won’t be able to use Google Maps while driving, Android Auto is particularly bothersome when it comes to handing the phone to the passenger. As a result, using the phone to ask someone in the car to add a stop to the itinerary is far more unpleasant than using CarPlay.
Is Google Maps compatible with my Toyota?
Unfortunately, your Toyota navigation system cannot be connected to Google Maps. However, you may use Bluetooth to download your directions from Google to play via the speakers in your vehicle. Or, if you have a more recent model, you can use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to connect your phone to your vehicle.
Choose Menu > Setup > Bluetooth to pair your phone with a Bluetooth device. Once Bluetooth is enabled on your phone, wait for your automobile to show up on the list of potential devices. Your phone should couple with your car as soon as you click on it, allowing Google Maps to deliver audio directions through your speakers.
