Do you long for the upcoming RV camping season? Do you need to transport large loads as a contractor? When looking for your next car, towing capacity should be a key consideration.
Here are five used cars that stand out in this regard, suitable for all tastes and price ranges.
When powered by a 3.2L V6 engine with 271 horsepower, the Jeep Cherokee is unrivaled among small SUVs. It puts much larger vehicles to shame with its towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.
Midsize SUVs with three rows often use a V6 engine. This is also true of the Dodge Durango, albeit there are also variants with a 5.7- or 6.4-liter V8 available. 7,200 and 8,700 pounds, respectively, can be towed. Impressive!
Yes, yet another Chrysler Group item (which became FCA, and now Stellantis). Many families choose minivans, and that is just OK. Even on vacation, you can utilize it to tow a trailer. With the towing equipment installed, a used Chrysler Pacifica can tow up to 3,600 pounds.
Do you recall this small hatchback from Sweden? The Volvo C30 had a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine with 227 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque before it was discontinued at the end of the 2013 model year. It could now tow at least 2,000 pounds thanks to that, which is 500 more than a Nissan Murano!
The adaptable Toyota Matrix, which was formerly very popular but was retired in 2014, is a favorite compact automobile thanks to its roomy and useful cabin. Many people are unaware that it can tow up to 1,500 pounds with the 2.4-liter engine, when the majority of competitors in its class do not.

Which little car can tow?
One of the smallest SUVs on the market right now is the 2020 Ford EcoSport. This small crossover is only 161 inches long, or over 2 feet shorter than a Honda CR-V, and it has a starting price of $19,995.
It can tow up to 2,000 pounds, though. For third-world markets, where even tiny SUVs must be durable, the EcoSport was created. You can haul more than many larger crossovers if you choose for the optional all-wheel-drive system and 166-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Even with all of its features, the EcoSport is still only $21,590. Furthermore, the standard model’s modest 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine allows it to tow 1,400 pounds. The EcoSport is not the most opulent, roomy, or elegant small SUV available, and its estimated 25 mpg by the EPA is lower than that of several larger crossovers. There isn’t a more inexpensive way to pull 2,000 lbs, though.
Which vehicles can pull 1,000 lbs?

Let’s look at some of our vehicles’ towing capacities and determine how much of that capacity you’ll actually need to tow the objects you want to.

You might be astonished to learn that the vehicle you want can tow a significant amount of weight, ranging from the 1,000 pound capacity of the Dodge Challenger and Charger to the enormous 32,210 capacity of the Ram 3500. A few of our 2017 models that can tow 1,000 pounds or more are listed below:
Do any cars have the ability to tow?
Despite being in its final year, the Volvo S80 is still capable of towing about two tons. The Toyota Tacoma pickup’s towing capability is 3,900 pounds higher than in some models. You may be able to out-tow your neighbor’s compact SUV, and when gas prices rise again, the S80’s EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined (normal gas, woo!) will let you to pay less at the pump. The gorgeous S90, which Volvo says will replace the outdated S80, can tow 3,900 pounds as well. This is good news if the S80 seems to be beyond its prime.
