This week’s bad news for Porsche SUV fans is that the flagship Macan Turbo is no longer available. However, there is good news as well because the GTS, the new range’s flagship, now boasts the same power and performance as the former Turbo. Additionally, it costs a few thousand less.
All of this is a part of a clever scheme to update the entire Macan line. The new three-model lineup, which is anticipated to arrive in the UK in October, has been given a facelift up front and back, some interior improvements, and more power.
The new top model now has 440PS (324kW), which is exactly what the 2.9-liter V6 produced in the Turbo. Power increases range from 20PS (15kW) more for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder entry Macan to 60PS (44kW) more for the GTS. The middle-tier Macan S receives the same V6 but with 380PS (280kW), an increase of 26PS (19kW).
All of the updated models are faster than their forerunners, and the GTS can reach 62 mph in the best case scenario of 4.3 seconds (when using the launch control feature of the optional Sport Chrono package). The latest Turbo was listed at over PS68k and has a top speed of 169mph.
For the record, the four-pot entry-level model (PS47,780) requires 6.2 seconds to reach 62 mph and the 161 mph Macan S (PS53,300) sprints from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds. Both vehicles have a top speed of 144 mph. All engines are coupled with the well-known all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The GTS now comes standard with sports air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and custom damper settings that, according to Porsche, better balance comfort and performance. The air springs are up to 15% stiffer and the ride height is 10mm lower than previously.
All versions have new, rather blocky front and rear aprons with black accents, which, in our opinion, are not as beautiful as the previous model. It almost seems like they are getting us ready for the appearance of the electric Macan, which is expected to debut soon. All models now have wheels that are larger (between 19 and 21 inches in diameter), and there are seven additional wheel types to pick from. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) LED headlights are standard on all.
The famous Porsche button-filled center console has been upgraded in the interior for all Macans, replacing the physical switches with lighted touch pads with haptic feedback. Additionally, a new analog clock and the multi-function 911 steering wheel are both present on the dashboard. Of course, there are many options, such as the Sport package, which is exclusive to the GTS and includes 18-way powered adjustable sport seats, carbon inside trim, and Race-Tex fabric.
And what is it that you can’t get? On the back is a Turbo badge. Perhaps Porsche is holding onto that for the electrified model.

A crossover with sporting aspirations needs to be quick, but the Macan’s all-around road prowess is what really makes us pleased. It has an amazingly sporty sedan-like feel about it. Rarely does the driver feel a jolt from the pavement because of how smoothly and meticulously the ride is managed. Although a little lighter than in Porsche’s sports cars, the steering is nonetheless incredibly accurate and wonderfully tactile.

With plenty of mid-range power and a fruity soundtrack, the 911 Carrera can definitely sense that someone is knocking on its door.
