Performance is primarily what separates the Macan and Macan S. While the Macan S features a turbocharged V6, the Macan has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Additionally, the Macan S gets dual twin-pipe exhausts and stronger brakes. A few further adjustments have also been made. The Macan’s wheels are 18 inches whereas the Macan S’s are 19 inches. Naturally, the external trim on the Macan S is different from that on the Macan.

Inside and Outside
The Macan’s inside is opulent, including sporty seats, sporty instrument gauges, and buttons that are simple to access. The exterior design of the Macan S is comparable. Larger tires and distinctive alloy wheels are available, though. The Macan’s wheels are 18 inches whereas the Macan S’s are 19 inches. The Macan S also boasts dual twin-pipe exhausts and stronger brakes. The Macan S has various interior improvements above the original model to give it a more opulent feel.
both brakes and suspension
Although this system is now included as standard equipment on the S model, both Macans that we evaluated had the same PASM (adaptive) air suspension as well as Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus technology. While the standard wheels and tires for the Macan are currently 19 inches, you can choose up to 20 or 21 inches (our tester came with the 20-inchers). The standard wheel/tire combination for the Macan S is 20 inches, but you can upgrade to 21s, as our test car had.
The normal Macan’s front brakes are 13.6-inch rotors with four-piston calipers, while the Macan S’s front brakes are 14.2-inch rotors with six-piston calipers. Each model uses the identical single-piston rear calipers and 13.0-inch rotors. Porsche’s optional 14.2-inch, six-piston PCSB special-coating design, which lowers brake dust and should not be mistaken with the PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes, is available for both Macans. In actuality, due to a problem with copper brake pads that bans Porsche from selling them in the United States, the carbon-ceramics are no longer available for any Macan. (Also, on earlier Macans, hardly any consumers selected them as an option.)
The brakes on the Macan were more than adequate for us. When it comes to bringing cars down from speed, Porsche is undoubtedly the best automaker, and both 2022 Macans excelled in that regard. Most of the time, the sensation of the brake pedal is smooth and progressive, and the brakes were appropriately harsh when we approached the tight hairpin turns on our route. Whether PSCB or PCCB, the Macans slow down and halt abruptly. In other words, when you hit the whoa pedal, you’ll never be caught off guard.
What distinguishes a Porsche Macan base from a S model?
The wheels are the single outward feature that distinguishes the Macan S from the base model. The Macan has all-season tires mounted on 19-inch wheels. With the Macan S, 20-inch wheels are included.
Are Macans authentic Porsches?
The German automaker Porsche began producing the Macan (Type 95B), a high-performance five-door luxury crossover SUV, in 2014. Leipzig, Germany is where it’s constructed. It is the Porsche model that costs the least right now.
Which model of Porsche Macan is the best?
Three different petrol engines, all of which have been revised for 2021, are currently offered with the Macan.
If you spend the majority of your time driving about town, the basic Macan is the best option. For the 2021 facelift, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine’s 245 horsepower was increased to 265 horsepower. Strangely, that’s less power than the VW Golf R’s equivalent engine produces, but it’s still enough for a respectable 0-60 mph pace of six seconds (or 5.8sec with the optional Sports Chrono pack)
Simply put, if you don’t care if your Macan sounds or feels like a Porsche, it’s fine. However, it is never interesting, and 28 mpg isn’t exactly remarkable.
But the Macan S ups the ante with a more thrilling and significantly more potent V6. It now has a 2.9-liter engine that produces 380hp for 2021, an increase from the previous model’s 354hp. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds instead of the previous 4.4 seconds with the Sports Plus package. It also performs and sounds like a Porsche should, especially if you specify the optional sports exhaust.
The former Turbo variant has been replaced as the top of the line vehicle by the Macan GTS. Its 2.9-liter V6 turbo V6 delivers the same amount of power (440hp) as the previous Turbo, and with the Sports Plus package, it can reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds (4.3sec without). With plenty of mid-range power and a fruity soundtrack, the 911 Carrera can definitely sense that someone is knocking on its door.
Four-wheel drive and a dual-clutch automatic transmission are standard on all variants. Heavy traffic and lengthy trips are easily handled by the former, while four-wheel drive helps maximize grip on slick surfaces—handy if you live somewhere that experiences harsh winters on a regular basis.

With the Sport Chrono Package, the standard Macan accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.8 seconds as opposed to 6.8 seconds.

With the same 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine as the Macan S, the top-end Macan GTS model can produce 434 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The Macan GTS can accelerate to 60 mph at its top speed in under 4.3 seconds without the Sport Chrono Package and 4.1 seconds without.

Is maintaining a Porsche Macan expensive?
We looked at how frequently the vehicle required major unplanned repair over a three-year period to determine the frequency of major maintenance. This “serious” maintenance item is a costly system breakdown that needs to be repaired (often a part or component costing above $1,000).
It should be emphasized that even while we analyze this data by make and model, driving style, vehicle condition, and mileage undoubtedly affect outcomes. Different frequencies of maintenance are needed depending on the vehicle. While newer cars can go longer between services, older vehicles may require more frequent maintenance.
The frequency score can be used to determine how long a vehicle can go without maintenance. A frequency score reveals how frequently a certain vehicle needs major repair over a three-year period. If an automobile has a maintenance frequency score of 3, for instance, it needs major repairs every year because the score is calculated over a three-year period. The longer it can go without major maintenance services, the closer the frequency score is to 0.
The frequency rating of a Porsche Macan is 3.87. This indicates that the Porsche Macan is significantly worse than average given that the industrial average is 1.3. The breakdown of all manufacturers and models is shown in the chart below.
It’s important to note that there are many trustworthy cars that could also need frequent, yet reasonably priced maintenance. For instance, many domestic brands have higher maintenance visits but lower overall costs (since labor and parts expense are typically cheaper for domestic brands). This doesn’t imply that cars break down less frequently, but it does show that when they do, the problems are usually fairly simple to remedy, which is perhaps even more significant.
