You can only perform launch control so many times, but one of the benefits is that it gives you individual mode. I’m now looking into buying a Cayman S with PDK and am seriously considering it. I did test drive a 911 4S and a S sans the sport chrono package (with the sport chrono package). I did detect the distinction. I’m not sure if it’s worth buying for ME, though.

I am currently configuring my second Macan while returning my current diesel to the OPC for a full refund (long story – DPF issue). I wanted to know if adding the Sports Chrono option to my Petrol S order is worthwhile and what benefits it offers.
- telemetry capture in the PCM (helpful on track as well as for keeping track of your travels)
- Sport Plus drivetrain mode results in fewer sluggish gear changes, is more conducive to manual gear changing with paddles, and marginally speeds up gear changes (if you’re really pushing).
- Launch control is useful in races and other situations, but that’s about it.
- PSM Sport mode (not sure if it comes with non-SC models by default?) It allows you to actually experience the chassis without endangering others by turning off traction and stability control.

You don’t need it if you grumble that the Sport Plus drive train mode hangs on to gears for much too long.
Oh, and in the interest of full openness, I had Sport Plus (SC minus the clock) retrofitted on my first Turbo and factory installed on my second.
I would specify it again if I had a third. In my opinion, PDK is too stupid to be used for truly sporty road use.
I didn’t have it on my SD, but I specified it because I thought a GTS “should” have it.
The clock is good (! ), but I can only count on one hand the number of times I’ve ever had a long enough stretch of free road to safely take advantage of it. Nothing is given to you that you can’t get manually if you truly want, including any more power or torque. Simply put, it makes it simpler to reach the performance’s peak.
Along with the additional pop and crackle from the exhaust, the quicker responses and additional stiffness setting for the suspension are “good to haves” (although you do get this in sport mode too)
