Where Is The Chip In A Nissan Key?


I intended to purchase the switchblade/flip style remote key fob as my next step. I’ll have my regular locksmith make the blank key for me, and I’m confident I can put the circuit board back into the new fob. Removing the transponder chip from the original key is my main worry. After carefully examining the location of the chip on the key’s bottom side, I believe I can carefully pry open the tab holding the chip there. I’ve read a couple postings where other members talked about having their transponder chips reprogrammed at the dealership for $200–$300. That is my last resort.

According to the instructions on the new switchblade/flip type key fob I purchased, I can take out my transponder chip and insert it into the new fob. Consequently, it will not be necessary to visit the dealership to have a new transponder programmed. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may simply be taking out the present chip and sticking it in a new key nevertheless, then charging us hundreds of dollars for a short job. I apologize, but I have little faith in dealership service.
