I intended to purchase the switchblade/flip style remote key fob as my next step. I’ll have my regular locksmith make the blank key for me, and I’m confident I can put the circuit board back into the new fob. Removing the transponder chip from the original key is my main worry. After carefully examining the location of the chip on the key’s bottom side, I believe I can carefully pry open the tab holding the chip there. I’ve read a couple postings where other members talked about having their transponder chips reprogrammed at the dealership for $200–$300. That is my last resort.
According to the instructions on the new switchblade/flip type key fob I purchased, I can take out my transponder chip and insert it into the new fob. Consequently, it will not be necessary to visit the dealership to have a new transponder programmed. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may simply be taking out the present chip and sticking it in a new key nevertheless, then charging us hundreds of dollars for a short job. I apologize, but I have little faith in dealership service.

Where is the chip in a car key located?
Keys that incorporate an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip inside the head are referred to as transponder or chipped keys. The use of these keys is now considered common practice among car manufacturers. This is so that your car’s ignition has a higher level of security thanks to the RFID chip. A automobile with an immobilizer system checks to see if a key’s RFID chip is present and has been programmed to the vehicle when the key is placed in the ignition. If a key is not recognized by the car, the immobilizer system will prevent the ignition from allowing the car to be started.
Immobilizers function in many ways. Some immobilizers prevent the engine from cranking at all, while others permit the engine to crank but prevent fuel injection into the motor, preventing the car from ever starting. A different kind of immobilizer system may even start the automobile for a few seconds before turning off the ignition. They all have one thing in common: they won’t let a car start without the appropriate transponder or chipped key in place.
When the ignition is turned on, the automobile will start if a chipped key has been programmed into the computer system. Your automobile key probably contains a transponder chip if it was manufactured within the previous 20 years and you drive one. The presence of a transponder chip in your automobile key is all but a given if it was manufactured within the last ten years. By ensuring that only you can start your car, these transponder keys contribute to the safety of your personal belongings.
For a fraction of what vehicle dealerships charge, Beishir Lock and Security has a wide selection of transponder keys for your automotive needs. In the event that you lose all of your keys, we can also create these keys entirely from scratch at your car.
Nissan started using chipped keys in what year?
Toyota Chip Keys Nissan and Infiniti began adopting transponder chip technology to increase the security of their automobiles in the late 1990s (1997 to be exact). That means that your automobile is far more difficult to steal and that your keys cost a little more to create than the old-style plain metal keys.
The Nissan key’s transponder can be found where?
Nissan cars built after 2003 typically use the transponder chip-coded NI04T key. It is utilized for various years and models.
This transponder chip key, also known as a coded key, must be programmed or coded in order to start your car.
The top of the key contains the chip. Unless you take the plastic cover apart, which we don’t advise doing, it cannot be seen.
Depending on the manufacturer, NI04T is also offered under the following names: Ilco NI04T, A1 KAN30112, Bianchi BN104T, Hata HAT-104, Jet DA40-PHT, Original H0564-ET000, Orion T21DA34, Silca NSN14T14, and Strattec 7003526. However, the most typical one is NI04T.
How can I program my Nissan key manually?
Instructions for Programming Nissan Intelligent Keys Remove the key after inserting it into the ignition but before starting the vehicle. Without the ignition, how do you program a Nissan key fob?
Any button on your keychain fob should be pressed and held until the door locks start to flash. It ought to take three seconds or so. Release your programming button as soon as the lock lights stop flashing. A continuous light that indicates that the key fob has been programmed should then appear.
How can I tell if my key contains a chip?
A chip or rfid (radio frequency identification transmitter) tag is located in the head of a transponder key. This chip has a code that needs to be entered into your car’s computer in order for it to start. This is an additional security measure in addition to the key’s metal mechanical part.
Locksmith Directory Your vehicle’s key and transponder information is stored in our databases.
Safety Light There is a security light in each car with a transponder key system. The security light can be a simple light or one with a picture of a key, a lock, or letters like “sec.” The center console and dashboard both have the image of light.
Every time you turn the ignition on for the vehicle, these security lights come on and flash. Your transponder key will go out if it has been properly programmed in and is recognized by the car. If the security light keeps flashing, your key hasn’t been programmed into the car. view the videos below
Numerous keys have engraved or stamped letters and numbers on them. These codes serve as important identifiers. Your key’s identification code can help us determine whether or not it has a transponder, so please provide it to us. A chip is also present in the head of transponder keys. Usually larger than the mechanical key, they have a plastic head. Here are images of a Ford H75 mechanical key blank and a H74-PT transponder key blank, respectively.
In the image below, you can also see the slot that the transponder chip fits into:
A different approach is to seek up your key using the vehicle’s year, make, and model information. An automobile key guide is included. Look up your vehicle; if it has a transponder, you can find instructions on how to program the key under the “Transponder Equipment Required” column.

A number of our clients enjoy fixing things themselves or are really curious in what goes on. This is for you, the rest of you can simply skip it.
Transponders with fixed codes always save the same code on their chip. The chip sends the code to the car’s computer in a single direction.
Data from the computer and chip is transmitted both directions when using rolling code transponders. Before changing the code, it first verifies the key’s code. The key receives the updated code. The vehicle will start after both codes have been modified and accepted.
The three different types of physical transponders are glass tubes, ceramic wedges, and integrated circuit chips.
What is the price of programming a Nissan key fob?
The newest Nissan cars all already have keyless entry. A key may still be used in cargo vans and certain very basic models, but Nissan’s keyless smart fob, the i-key, is now used in most models, including the Pathfinder and Maxima.
A replacement Nissan fob may be programmed for between $125 and $400. The ultimate pricing is based on your location, your Nissan model, and the year. Nissan may discontinue making keys in the future in order to join the phone-controlled device revolution. However, time will tell if this key represents a turning point in Nissan’s history of key production. However, as of right now, Nissan’s most recent key technology is the intelli-key, which may be created by a nearby auto locksmith.
