My sonar system suddenly ceased functioning the other day. The button to turn it off would light on the first time it started and stay lit no matter how hard I hit it. I found the diagnostic process after doing some investigation. The outer left sensor is defective, I discovered. Anyone with knowledge of where to buy a single sensor (the Nissan parts website only shows the complete assembly) and how to install it? I want to remain OEM. I climbed under the bumper, and while it seems simple enough, I always value first-hand advise from someone who has really done it. I’ve looked everywhere, but the only videos I can find about Nissan sensor issues are ones for buzzer replacement (seems to be a common problem).
I also wonder whether this has anything to do with this winter’s sensor freakouts when it rained and then it became incredibly cold. Until they “thawed out” in the light, the system would panic out and basically beep continuously. The sensors had no ice or other obstructions.
Models
Ultrasonic sound waves are used by sonar sensors to detect nearby and distant objects. The sound waves that are being delivered may be muffled, misdirected, absorbed, or not received if a sonar sensor’s visible surface has been harmed or is partially or completely blocked by mud/dirt, road debris, bugs, snow, or ice. Sonar sensor malfunction may have a variety of causes, including:
- Not inside the sensors’ detecting range is the object.
- The sensor range sensitivity setting is set either too sensitively or too lightly.
- objects that the sensors are unable to detect.
- If there is any foreign matter (mud/dirt, debris from the road, insects, snow or ice, etc.) on or around any of the sensors.

If there are items present but the sonar sensor is not picking them up, first make sure:

Before testing, check that all of the sensors are clear and that there is no accumulated debris close to the sensors.
There is a maximum range and a particular detecting region for each sensor. The sensor won’t be able to detect an object if it is beyond of the following detection ranges.
To make sure the sensors are picking up objects, open the vehicle’s options menu, see whether the range can be adjusted, and set it to the farthest setting possible.
Obstacles that absorb or do not reflect these waves cannot be detected by the sensors since they locate obstacles by sending out and then receiving ultrasonic soundwaves.

Nissan Sonar System: What Is It?
In Nissan automobiles, the SCU transforms the sensor signal from the sonar sensors into a detection distance signal and sends it through CAN to the combination meter. Sonar sensors in Infiniti vehicles use AV communication to send a signal to the audiovisual (AV) control unit.
