A 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque is an option for our Nissan Rogue. The Nissan Rogue lacks an electrified drivetrain, in contrast to competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
Chris Reed, senior vice president of Nissan North America, has noted that further powertrain options for the Rogue could be added in the future. The Nissan X-Trail from 2022 may offer hints as to what we might expect.
Nissan’s e-Power powertrain technology is used in the X-Trail, helping Nissan in its goal to electrify every new model by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. In contrast to other hybrids, the e-Power system employs a gasoline engine to fuel the electric motor and charge the battery.
This results in a powertrain that is silent, has quick acceleration, and smoothly decelerates without the need for external charge. Additionally, it enables Nissan to reach the strict emission goals in China.
It is unknown how much power the X-Trail will have. However, reports claim that it will use the same e-Power engine as the new Quashai. It generates 187 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque from a 1.5-liter engine and electric motor.

Although the gasoline engine in the X-Trail has variable compression, it doesn’t actually drive the wheels. Instead, it generates electricity by acting as a generator. By choosing this course, Nissan can ensure that the engine is constantly operating at its most efficient level. Comparing this to a typical ICE-powered vehicle results in a reduction in both fuel use and pollutants. The smaller Qashqai (known as the Rogue Sport in the US) also includes e-4ORCE, therefore the X-Trail is not the first vehicle to feature the technology.
The standard model employs a 2WD layout and the same 1.5-liter combustion engine as the hybrid model but does not have the front and rear electric motors. Deceleration is automatically delivered immediately the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal when choosing the electrified model, which lowers the need to press the brake pedal.

Pricing ranges from 3,198,800 yen (approximately $23,100 at the time of writing) to 4,499,000 yen (about $32,600). Five two-tone finishes are among the 12 body colors that are available for the 2WD variant, which comes only with two rows of seats. In addition to Nissan’s own water-repellent Tailor Fit and Cell-Cloth, fabric and Nappa leather upholstery options are available inside.
Is the X-Trail the same as the Qashqai?
It has been a major sales success for the firm ever since the original Qashqai was introduced back in 2007 and has constantly ranked among the top five best selling cars in the UK.
When you park these two vehicles next to one another, you’ll see that they have a striking resemblance, with the X-Trail resembling a Qashqai that has been 125% photocopied. This is not always a bad thing, since both vehicles have sharp bodywork creases and LED daytime running lights that make them seem rather stylish.
However, if you pay close attention, you can tell the two apart by their slightly different front bumper and rear light cluster designs.
The biggest distinction between the two is size; in addition to being 100mm longer than the Qashqai, the X-Trail is also marginally broader and higher. This is to make it a seven-seater, which is something you can’t have with the Qashqai, by adding a second row of seats in the back.
Nissan Xtrail—small SUV or not?
A mid-sized SUV with both five and seven seats available is the Nissan X-Trail.
The successful RAV4 and Forester SUVs were the target market for the 2001 launch of the X-Trail, which shares many characteristics with the RAV such as a choice of two and four-wheel drive, gasoline and diesel engines, and manual and automatic transmissions. The Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Rogue both have nearly identical exterior designs for 2022. The X-Trail, however, is also offered with a third row and hybrid powertrains. In America, there is only one engine option for the Rogue.
The Rogue’s 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine produces 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque in the US. It has a respectable acceleration time for the class, taking 8.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.
The Nissan X-Trail, however, offers e-POWER hybrids. The front-wheel drive variant, according to AutoBlog, combines the American engine with an electric motor to produce roughly 201 horsepower.
The e-4ORCE model with all-wheel drive adds a 126-hp motor to the back and produces 211 horsepower. Without a transfer case or rear drive shaft, the dual motor system drives each wheel independently.

The Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Rogue Sport are indeed the same cars. Nissan utilizes the Rogue Sport brand for the range in the US, despite using the Qashqai name elsewhere in the world. Despite being categorized as compact SUV-crossovers, the Kuga and Qashqai have very different sizes. With an overall length of 4.524 meters compared to the Qashqai’s 4.394 meters, the Kuga is noticeably longer. In addition, the Kuga is 107 mm taller and 32 mm wider than the Nissan, thereby moving it up one size category above the Qashqai.
Additionally, the Qashqai’s cabin capacity is notably smaller than the Kuga’s due to their different sizes: Its shorter 44-millimeter wheelbase and lower roofline both restrict headroom and legroom in the rear seats. However, the Nissan’s boot measures 504 liters when all seats are occupied, while the Ford can only manage to deliver 442 liters, creating an anomaly in the load volume.
