The RB25DET NEO engine was first made available in May 1998 in the HR34, ER34, ENR34, and BNR34. It is more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. The R32 Skyline’s RB20DE engine was reinstated in the upgraded NEO form, and the RB20E engine was dropped from the R34 base model (GT). The RB20DE NEO engine and five-speed gearbox in the R34 GT made it the most fuel-efficient straight-six Skyline to date (of any shape). Some models still come with a 4-speed automatic transmission, although it has been modified with tiptronic-style manual controls. From 1998 to 2000, the 25GT Turbo coupe (commonly abbreviated as GT-T) was marketed in Singapore and Hong Kong for the export market. From 2001 to 2002, the facelifted 25GT Turbo was sold in New Zealand with the GT-R V-Spec. The R34 25GT Turbo model Skylines were only marketed in these three nations outside of Japan.
