Nissan North America and customers of certain Nissan cars with faulty continuously variable gearboxes have achieved a class action settlement (CVTs).
According to the most recent case, the Japanese carmaker purposely sold cars with faulty CVT transmissions. Nissan entered into a deal to address some accusations of defective transmissions in which it agreed to pay approximately $277 million. The 2022 Nissan CVT settlement covers the following Nissan models:
- Nissan Rogue, 2014–2018
- Infiniti QX60, 2015–2018
- Nissan Pathfinder, 2015–2018
In the most recent class action case against Nissan that was settled, it was claimed that a number of the automaker’s vehicles had defective CVTs. According to a number of drivers, their vehicles’ transmission and other lemon problems started in as low as 20,000 miles.

- The Class Vehicle must have had the replacement or repair done before it has been in use for 84 months or has traveled 140,000 miles, whichever comes first. The whole price the Class Member paid will be refunded if the replacement or repair was done by a Nissan dealer. Nissan will pay up to $6,000 in compensation for repairs or replacements made by auto repair shops other than Nissan.
You must fill out a claim form and submit it by September 13, 2022, along with the necessary supporting documents for the repairs you’re asking for compensation for.
(3) Voucher Towards Purchase or Lease of a New Vehicle: If you are a Former owner of Class Vehicles who had two or more replacements or repairs to the transmission assembly or ATCU during your ownership experience, the settlement provides a Voucher in the amount of $1,300 for either a purchase or lease of a single new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle from an authorized Nissan dealer in Canada (as reflected by Nissan Canada Inc. Warranty records).
- Class Members who are qualified for both reimbursement of a Qualifying Repair and a Voucher must choose between receiving one or the other; they cannot receive both.
- By March 15, 2023, the Voucher must be used to finance or lease a single new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle.

Which Nissans are subject to a recall?
Certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles, are being recalled by Nissan North America, Inc.
