Since Lexus cars are all on refinement, they are arguably the only ones who can make the trusty CVT sophisticated. Even though it is a base model Lexus, the UX is a genuine Lexus. It has a “10-speed Direct Shift CVT,” which is essentially a CVT transmission with a launch gear and 10 virtual speeds, coupled to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine.
As you might expect, the CVT launches the car smoothly when you need to accelerate. It’s also one of the quieter CVTs we’ve used, but that could just be the excellent NVH dampeners that Lexus uses. We’re not entirely sure why Lexus gave the UX a CVT transmission at first, given that it’s meant to be an entry-level luxury car, but with a CVT so good, you won’t really notice it’s there.
Does the Nissan engine in the Mitsubishi Outlander exist?
