Although it seems like we’ve been hearing about Kia introducing a new brand logo for years, it finally happened on Wednesday. On Jan. 15, Kia stated we will learn more about its “new brand purpose and strategy” and unveiled the new logo it will use going forward on new automobiles. Personally, I believe that the Stinger’s arrival should have prompted this logo change, but better late than never.
See, Kia still carries the stigma of building cheap cars, and its present branding and emblem are still associated with incredibly shoddy vehicles from decades ago. The Korean manufacturer now produces some amazing vehicles across its spectrum, and they will soon get the marketing and branding attention they deserve. At least, such is the company’s hope.
To spell out the name “Kia,” a flowing script has replaced the blocky font and basic oval. The new logo, according to the company, represents “symmetry,” “rhythm,” and “rising.” Additionally, it’s meant to convey confidence and appear more like a handwritten seal of approval from the business. Truthfully, anything is a huge improvement over the current logo.
However, there’s still more. Along with the new look comes a new motto that you’ll soon notice on Kia advertisements: “Movement that inspires.” According to Kia, this major rebranding initiative coincides with the company’s ambitions to introduce multiple new electric vehicles over the next few years. In a little more than a week, we should learn more about those cars and the new brand approach. Enjoy the logo’s unveiling and a record-breaking fireworks display that features “the most unmanned aerial vehicles firing fireworks simultaneously,” according to Kia, in the interim.

Why did Kia decide to alter its name?

On October 2, 2018, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and StratCom Ukraine, a center for strategic communications with 15 members, launched the web campaign KyivNotKiev. Its objective was to encourage English-speaking media outlets and organizations to solely refer to the Ukrainian capital’s city as Kyiv rather than Kiev, which is derived from the Russian language. [1][2] The larger CorrectUA campaign includes it. It follows a global trend of cities changing their names.
By encouraging the sole use of Ukrainian-language transliterations for Ukrainian place names, the organization hopes to promote linguistic relics of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union and help shed foreign perceptions of them.
[3][4][5] The MFA’s Department of Public Diplomacy is in charge of the campaign.
The Ukrainian government formally authorized the transliteration Kyiv in 1995[6], and since then has worked to increase the usage of Kyiv abroad.
Despite being accepted by the Tenth United Nations Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names in 2012, this transliteration did not have a significant impact on a global scale.
[8]
[9] Prior to 2019, there were few instances of organizations changing their spelling to “Kyiv,” largely because those outside of Ukraine did not see the necessity for it or believed that nationalists were “intentionally” forcing the change.
[4]
[10]
[11] The Russo-Ukrainian War started in 2014, and as a result, numerous Western media sources changed their spelling.
[12] The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 only served to escalate the conflict and global political sentiment.
What caused Kia to alter their logo?
The world may occasionally need some time to get used to a new logo, especially if there has been a significant overhaul. When the new Kia logo debuted in January, responses were a touch divided. Some people praised the company for its long-overdue update, while others noted that it was a little perplexing.
Although we weren’t exactly in a rush to include it on our list of the greatest logos ever (opens in new tab), we didn’t consider the redesign to be all that horrible. But the only true test for a design is time, so what is the verdict on Kia’s new logo now that more than six months have passed? Well, it appears that most individuals are somewhat perplexed.
Consider the account of a Reddit user who contacted the r/nonmurdermysteries subreddit (opens in new tab) to see whether anyone had heard of this “They had seen the KM Cars brand on several occasions.
“They claimed, “I’ve seen hundreds of car brands, and as far as I can tell, none are even vaguely linked.” The original poster quickly acknowledged that they had in fact seen the new Kia emblem when it was brought up shortly after.
Similar to this, a Twitter user recently uploaded a picture of a car emblem he had seen in the wild and posed the question, “Can anyone confirm whether or not this car logo is real? What automobile manufacturer is the insignia supposedly from?
We’ll venture a guess that you already know which automaker Twitter users decided the emblem actually belonged to.
More Twitter users have admitted to believing the Kia emblem represented a brand-new automaker. Others have also noted how similar it is to Nine Inch Nails’ famous NI logo, which is probably not what the firm intended either.
A well-known meme account (opens in new tab) also picked up the KM Cars reddit article, and the responses to their tweet provide insight into how people feel about the change.
“Throughout the [NBA] playoffs, I pondered this question for a good portion of the time. One response stated that the logo is HORRIBLE.
In January, Kia stated that the logo was meant to represent a new beginning and a shift in the company’s focus. According to a news release, the logo’s “rhythmical, uninterrupted line expresses Kia’s commitment to offering moments of inspiration, while its symmetry demonstrates confidence.”
The business definitely got things started on the right foot by announcing the relaunch at the beginning of this year (opens in new tab) with the pomp and circumstance more typically associated with events like a royal birth or the end of World War II.
The quantity of pyrotechnics launched by unmanned aerial vehicles as a result of the redesign announcement broke the Guinness World Record (UAVs). As a result, we are unable to even begin to speculate on the next one.
What became of the Kia logo?
These days, Kia produces some excellent automobiles, and they will now sport a logo deserving of them.
Gran Turismo was the beginning of it all. Sean has always had a fascination with things that move thanks to his early PlayStation days. He worked as a freelancer for Motor Authority, The Car Connection, and Green Car Reports before joining the Roadshow team. Sean has a 2016 Chevrolet SS, and it does have Holden badges, in the garage.
What is the new name for Kia?
Following the January global unveiling of Kia’s dynamic new logo and brand makeover, Kia Motors America is formally adopting the global Kia Plan S strategy and changing its corporate name to Kia America with the North American debut of its game-changing electric vehicle, the EV6. According to Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia America and Kia North America, “this is a significant and inspirational period in Kia’s history.”
Globally, our brand is developing a sustainable, purposeful strategy for present, future, and undeveloped vehicle categories in addition to broader initiatives we are now prepared to pursue. The news made today shows that Kia in the US is prepared for further success and is fully in line with the worldwide strategy of Kia Corporation.
On all 2022 automobiles, the new logo, which resembles a handwritten signature, will be implemented. The new logo’s design is straightforward yet dramatically powerful: the two diagonal strokes’ rising motion is emphasized by beveled ends, which also reveals an unexpected subtext, “Ki,” meaning “to rise. In contrast to the vast proportions of the three vertical pillars, which support stability and give the composition a confident and balanced appearance, the connections between the characters are narrow, emphasizing the power and energy of movement.
The unveiling of the new approach coincides with Kia’s two straight best-ever US sales months in March and April of 2021.
The headquarters of Kia America are located in Irvine, California, while Kia’s production plant is located in West Point, Georgia, both of which are a part of Kia North America. Along with the factory in Nuevo Len, Mexico, Kia North America also comprises the company’s operations in Canada and Mexico. The Kia Design Center America in Irvine, California, and various R&D centers are run by the Kia Corporation.

Why does Kia use two distinct logos?
Have you ever driven past a vehicle that vaguely resembled a Kia but didn’t have a Kia logo on it?
This is due to the fact that many Kia owners replace the factory-installed logo on their vehicles with a different one that closely resembles a Lexus emblem in an effort to conceal the fact that they are operating a Kia. Since Kia was once a low-cost brand in North America, it seems sense that some people might desire to conceal the genuine identity of their Kia.
