What is it like to drive?
On paper, the single engine option for the Picanto might seem a little sparse, but in actuality, it’s a wonderful small engine that fits the Picanto’s vivacious personality. Of course, the higher powerful turbo version of the engine in the GT-Line and GT-Line S standards is your only choice if you’re in anything resembling a hurry. In manual mode, the 66 horsepower motor can only reach 060 mph in 14.1 seconds, and in automated mode, it takes a frigid 16.6 seconds. You’ll arrive in 9.9 seconds if you unleash the 99 horsepower beast. Phew.
Realistically, it doesn’t feel quite that slow.
It’s not like everyone is drag racing outside, and the Picanto does its city car job admirably. It has enough of vigor for zipping around town, and its 3-cylinder engine is happy to crank if you don’t mind the noise. The engine has been expertly balanced by Kia, and there is little indication of the type of vibration that early downsizing three-pots experienced. Keep your right foot pinned and warm up your arm that changes gears; that usually works.
The Picanto is ideal as a first car for people building up their hours on the road or for someone who just wants to jump in and go because it’s simple to feel comfortable behind the wheel and the driving controls are all clearly laid out. The Picanto fulfills its purpose admirably, although similar vehicles occasionally go above and beyond thatthe Volkswagen Up and Hyundai i10 are surprisingly pleasant traveling companionsthe Kia’s abilities largely end there. The weedier 66bhp Picanto loses steam above city speeds and begins to regress. Driving on highways and A-roads is all about maintaining momentum, and at any rate, the slightly increased cabin noise does encourage you to keep a slower pace. The domain of more expensive rivals is noise reduction.
The GT-Line and GT-Line S cars are the only ones that can be equipped with the more potent T-GDi, which also has the same set of five-speed gearboxes. However, the faster 9.9 seconds at 060 mph is much faster, and the car benefits from the greater power. On a particularly long section of the highway, you might even think about doing an occasional overtake. The other versions of the car all tip the scales at around the 980kg level, making this version the only one to squeak over the tonne threshold at 1,030kg.

Regardless of the model, the Picanto’s little weight contributes significantly to how much fun it is to drive. City driving is a delight thanks to the car’s outstanding chuckability and quick steering.

Does the Kia Picanto use little gas?
We loaded the Kia Picanto up for a weekend road trip even though it is a quintessential tiny city car and we are already familiar with its urban capabilities. In and around cities, where average speeds are frequently lower due to traffic congestion and, tragically, poor road conditions, the vast majority of city cars provide adequate performance and efficiency, but many of them often struggle on wide roads. Although the 1.2 X-Line felt aggressive when passing slower traffic, some cheap compact vehicles actually struggle to maintain three-digit national highway speeds.
The 1.25-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers the Picanto flagship produces 61 kW and 122 Nm. The derivative has a 5-speed manual transmission, but an automatic is also an option for a little bit additional money. The gearbox has a comfortable movement, and shifting only requires a small amount of effort. It’s also a good thing because you’ll probably utilize the ‘box aggressively to get the most power out of that obedient engine.
We believe the Picanto’s low kerb weight is the key to its nipiness (962 kg). Because the 1.2-liter engine has little mass to move, it performs eagerly. Another advantage is that the engine doesn’t have to work hard, which increases fuel efficiency. Fuel efficiency does, of course, depend on your driving habits, but if you practice economical driving, you can achieve low fuel consumption rates.
We were pleased to see a return of 5.1 L/100 km on the open road, which was a significant increase over the stated number of 6.4 L/100 km we saw during the vehicle’s introduction in the middle of February 2021. This was where Kia’s remarkable fuel economy began to shine. Officially, Kia claims 5.0 L/100 km, so we were extremely pleased with our consumption rate.
Despite its budget-car foundations, the Kia Picanto exhibits good driving characteristics and feels securely planted on the pavement. During our road trip, we experienced some strong crosswinds, but we were pleasantly pleased by how sure-footed the 1.2 X-Line felt. In such circumstances, several of the Korean offering’s competitors feel rather insecure, but the tenacious Picanto soldiered bravely.
The Kia Picanto’s steering is light, rather direct, and provides comforting feel. Even if you are a lousy parker, rear PDC and a reverse-view camera make things nearly straightforward. Inner city and low-speed manners are good, which makes parallel parking and alley docking a cinch. The 185/55 tires on the 15-inch wheels absorb the majority of the road’s irregularities.
Although it is a somewhat inexpensive car, driving it doesn’t seem cheap. The Picanto feels a little more upscale than some of its competitors, and the refinement is apparent in the engine or road noise, which is effectively muted.
We thought it would be appropriate to evaluate the test vehicle’s gravel-travel abilities given the 1.2 X-off-road-inspired Line’s aesthetics, but it performed similarly to other compact city vehicles. The crossover add-ons are probably simply for show, but that could also be said of the majority of compact hatchbacks that are dressed to please.
You can purchase a city car at this price bracket with all the bells and whistles you could want.
The interiors of Kia’s most recent models are of a high caliber (and not only in the top-end variants), and the Picanto feels unexpectedly upscale when compared to some of its main rivals. The 1.2 X-quality Line’s of fit and finish is good, and premium materials have been used, which are pleasant to the touch. The car’s interior is nicely decorated with two-tone faux leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. In contrast, the fascia arrangement is straightforward and minimalistic.
Given its range-topping rank, the 1.2 X-Line is crammed with features. An 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity is new for this variant and is accessed via a single central USB port. We saw that there was no voice control button on the steering wheel for the Android Auto configuration. The system depends on this missing button, which enables queries like “Hey Google/Siri, navigate,” among others. We discovered a solution, but it required touching an icon on the touchscreen; we much prefer to always keep both hands on the steering wheel.
To clarify, there are electric windows on all sides, manual air conditioning, USB/Aux/Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors, a rear camera, fog lights, LED daytime running lights, and 15-inch alloy wheels, among other important features. Our test vehicle included an optional sunroof.
The boot of the Kia Picanto can only accommodate two hand-luggage sized, tiny suitcases.
The Kia Picanto has one of the smallest load bays in the market at 255 liters. The load compartment, as seen in the image above, barely has room for three tiny handbags. Although the back seats can be folded down to create more capacity, we instead used the rear seats and rear legroom regions for storage. This is your best option if you don’t need to transport more people than two.

Is the Kia Picanto a good investment?
Six years into owning my Picanto Eco Dynamics, I have not encountered a single issue. I adore the sun roof, and the only reason I’m switching to another Picanto is because I pick up my young grandson from school, and getting him into his car seat is difficult for me because of my back issues. The three-door looks nice because it has a slightly sportier appearance. super vehicle

Over three years ago, I paid 200 dollars for this car to use as a cheap runabout around the city. It has, however, completed a decent number of lengthy motorway runs and contently travels at 70 mph, even up steep inclines. Additionally, it is surprisingly quiet on the freeway. In spite of its little boot, it is quite useful. I was able to fit a king size bed, a chest of drawers, and (just) 2.4 meter pieces of wood within. All of these items are from Ikea. It can transport lawnmowers, and the front passenger seat’s tendency to lean forward makes carrying large loads easier. It has a good turning circle, making it perfect for city driving, but potholes make it lose focus, and some speed bumps can be more bothersome than necessary due to the tight track. Overall, though, it does all the unpleasant chores well, and at 93 dollars a year for insurance, I wouldn’t want to be without it. With 107,000 miles under its belt, it still starts on the first touch of the key and needs no oil.

The worst vehicle I’ve ever owned was this one. I’m sure it’s reliable and economical, but even on flat roads, it amplified even the smallest bumps. similar to crossing a permanent livestock grid. Just how it can be described as a smooth ride escapes me. And it’s quite noisy.
My tiny puppy was wailing, my head hurt, and after 10 miles of concrete suspension and roar, I made the decision to get rid of it. only kept it for a week. Please make sure the driving is comfortable before you purchase one.

Even while it may not be the sexiest vehicle, it is unrivaled in terms of dependability and utility. For both short and long journeys, use it. Even Wales and Scotland can be reached from the south east, however it may not be the fastest route. Amazing what can fit for a two-week self-catering summer vacation with a toddler and two adults and yet have room to see out the rear. Maintain it properly, and it will serve as a buddy for many years.

My fourth Kia Picanto, and I still adore it. You cannot go wrong when there is a 7 year guarantee. When traveling long or short distances, you get so much to the gallon and there is no tax to pay. It is an incredibly roomy and comfy vehicle.

A beautiful little car that has a great reliability record. There is plenty of room for people and 5 doors. The seats can be split to provide three seats and additional luggage space, or they can fold flat to provide plenty of room for two. economic while still being quick in traffic. An excellent turning circle for parking, etc.

I’ve had my Kia Picanto for approximately 4 years, and I drive about 7,500 miles annually, mostly local trips but occasionally longer ones for vacations of up to 250 miles. It is perfect for this type of use, and I average about 45 mpg; tax is about $ 30 per year, and insurance is reasonably priced, so running costs are low. When necessary, it can accommodate 4 adults, though not in comfort for lengthy journeys. Performance meets my demands, parking is simple, and I’m happy with this car overall.

I adore my automobile because there are scarcely any visible bodywork damage when I struck a deer one winter evening. I feel extremely safe inside, plus it’s cozy, well-designed, and convenient for parking. The only flaws in my car are its terrible windscreen wipers, dipped headlights, and lack of va va voom acceleration in high gear.
