My idea of camping, though, is to glamp in a luxurious cabin, similar to the ones we stayed in while visiting Santa Claus, Indiana.
But while we had the Kia Sorento on a long-term assignment this summer, I wanted to learn everything it could do. I’ve learned a lot of new things from owning a Sorento and from driving the newest model this summer. It was a terrific SUV for our camping vacation.
Let me describe the Kia Sorento’s many unexpected ways of providing on our camping trip.
Space. Derrick and I first intended to camp in the SUV without a tent. We were persuaded when one of his buddies discovered a tent that could be attached to an SUV or car. However, we concluded that sleeping in the SUV rather than on a tent floor would be MUCH more comfortable. We both managed to fit after reclining every seat in the Sorento thanks to its spaciousness. We still had space in the SUV to store some of our stuff.

fuel economy. I’ve previously discussed the Sorento SUV’s fuel economy. Driving is involved in going camping up north. From our home to Pictured Rocks, the trip took more over six hours. Thankfully, the Sorento had us covered with highway fuel economy of up to 30 mpg.
Anchors. There are anchors on each side of the Sorento’s back, surrounding the trunk area. This was ideal for securing our tent by tying it to.
Towards the end of the summer, we organized a last-minute camping excursion up north (to Michigan). We made the decision to wing it even though we had no idea where we would set up camp near Pictured Rocks. I’m the queen of last-minute vacations, so I was confident that everything would work out.
We stopped at a neighboring campsite after spending the day seeing the Pictured Rocks region (which is quite gorgeous). Unfortunately, they had reservations. They advised us to try the one nearby.
We arrived at the Hiawatha National Forest campsite via vehicle. When we rode about looking for the lot for the on-site manager, he told us that they, too, were sold out. I paused, wondering if my last-minute preparations needed to be adjusted.
But alas, a kind elderly couple saved me. They heard our predicament about not having a campsite as they were making their way back to their tent. They kindly offered to let us use their website. They told us they were leaving early in the morning and had a tiny tent put up. To visit one of their sons, they were traveling from upstate New York to Oregon by car.
Since it was our first time using the tent, they were also kind enough to assist us in setting it up.
We were able to unwind around a fire before turning in for the night once the tent was affixed to the Sorento.
We got up early the following morning to see the dawn over Lake Superior. The BEST location in the campground was secured by this couple. It has beautiful lake views and was located directly on the water. We really got lucky, you know?
After we bid them farewell, Derrick started to work preparing our opulent breakfast of steak and rice in the Instant Pot. The fun of camping with a Sorento is exactly that. We were able to prepare our breakfast and charge all of our gadgets thanks to the 110v inverter plug!
We packed the car and tidied up our campground after breakfast. The tent was quite simple to take down, and we had no trouble fitting it into the back of the SUV.
I highly recommend taking a cruise around Pictured Rocks, which is how we ended our day. Being on the sea will give you the best views of Pictures Rocks. Pictured Rocks can be explored by boat, canoe, or kayak.
I had no intention of going camping in an SUV. But I chose to take a chance because of the 2017 Kia Sorento’s enhancements. We found that going camping with just the hubs allowed us to explore the north without any children while also getting to know one another better. We avoided paying for a hotel and meals by camping in our SUV! A quick break doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. It only requires a little preparation and frequently requires coming up with a new idea.

Use Clothing As Your Pillow.
Get rid of the pillows and utilize your clothes instead if you want to reduce the amount of stuff in your automobile.

Crack the windows a tiny bit.
Roll down a window high enough to prevent inquisitive eyes from entering your automobile while you are sleeping.

Wear a sleeping mask.

An entirely new model, the 2021 Kia Seltos, is being released by Kia, a well-liked South Korean automaker. It was created to appeal to young, tech-savvy consumers as well as the active millennial audience.
I recently took the stylish, sub-compact SUV crossover for a weeklong test drive and was generally very impressed with this new model. While not perfect, this new model from Kia offers a great middle ground between the boxy Sole and the fashionable Sportage.
