Why Are Infiniti Drivers So Bad?

Study: Infiniti Vehicles Are More Frequently Involved in Fatal Accidents Caused by Speed and Alcohol than Other Brands

According to a recent analysis of NHTSA data, Infiniti drivers have the greatest rates of speeding- or alcohol-related fatal collisions in the United States when compared to all other brands.

Given sample sizes of 250 or more fatal incidents in 2017, the study asserts to have used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) to examine whether brands were associated with reckless driving. In order to gain more insight into reckless driving, it also divided automakers into “luxury” and “nonluxury” categories as well as “international” and “domestic” categories.

According to the analysis’s findings, nearly one in three fatal accidents involving an Infiniti—which is the highest rate of any brand and over eight percent higher than the country as a whole at 25.1%—involved speeding. On the other end of the scale was Kia, where only 22% of fatal incidents involve speeding. Drivers of either foreign or luxury brands were shown to be more prone than those of local or economy brands to speed to their end.

Infiniti once more topped the list of deadly accidents caused by alcohol, with a 25.1 percent rate (against a national average of 18.1 percent). With 23.6 percent, Pontiac, which once again placed first in other categories, emerged in second place. Domestic and economy automobiles were shown to have a greater rate of drunk driving-related fatalities than international or luxury cars, which is the opposite of the speed-related mortality pattern noted above.

Once again, Infiniti led the nation in deadly hit-and-run rates with a 4.3 percent average, but Mercedes-Benz was a close second at 4.2 percent. Drivers of luxury cars were found to attempt to flee the scene of a fatal collision more frequently, doing so 3.3 percent of the time compared to 2.6 percent of drivers of economic cars.

For fatal accidents involving marijuana, Pontiac won the top spot; its 6.7 percent rate is more than double the US average of 3.3 percent (the regular offender Infiniti didn’t even make the top five). With a national rate of 10.6 percent compared to the defunct GM brand’s 15.4 percent, hard drug-related deaths are likewise at the top of the list.

Unsurprisingly, Volvo topped the charts for drug- and alcohol-related fatalities, with a rate of deadly drunken driving accidents that was less than half that of Lincoln, which came in second. Additionally, Volvo reported slightly more fatalities involving hard drugs than it did with alcohol, but that doesn’t say much about its drivers, who still rated second-lowest in that area. Despite being second-lowest in speed-related crashes, Buick was positioned at the other end of the spectrum; second-highest in the drug-related mortality category (if not spider-related crashes).

Due to speeding and drinking, Infiniti drivers have the highest rate of fatal car accidents.

In the US, automobile accidents are one of the leading causes of death. In 2018, almost 40,000 people lost their lives in car accidents. One of the main factors contributing to deadly auto accidents in the US is speeding.

People who choose to drive too fast for the conditions or override posted speed restrictions, frequently in an effort to shorten their commute, endanger the lives of every other driver.

Many drivers can have preconceived notions regarding the propensity for reckless driving among owners of particular makes and models of vehicles. A recent study looked for solid proof regarding the car brands that were most frequently in accidents brought on by specific risky behaviors.

The following automakers are most likely to be involved in fatal collisions caused by speeding:

  • Infiniti
  • Acura
  • Mitsubishi
  • Volkswagen
  • Honda
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Lexus
  • Chevrolet
  • Mercury

Infinitis is involved in one out of every three deadly speeding accidents, claims the report. Involvement of luxury vehicles in deadly speeding collisions is high, at about 27%.
