I’d want to thank you for this message board. Lots of thoughtful information and information here.
I hope my first post on this site will be at least as helpful as the ones I’ve previously read.
For those who are interested, this is a factual account of my weekend. I’ve seen and read about numbers, ideas, and calculations on this message board thus far. I simply share what occurred to me today. Some background information is required.
It was time to turn in the lease for a 2014 Q50 base that belonged to me lady. I wanted to swap in my 2011 BMW 3 Series for that car since I liked it. Unfortunately, that was just too painful. I would trade the Bmer for another automobile, it was determined. I got lucky and found a 2015 Q50S with under 10k miles with standard steering. It moved smoothly and looked fantastic, so I was really stoked. However, there was a SNAFU with me lady’s automobile, so we had to get around town in my ‘new’ vehicle. Regardless of how you look at it, I was king for a day. Even if they managed to get her into a 2017, it would only be a 3.0t vehicle with drive by wire steering. DAS is widely acknowledged as a technical misstep, and as of my most recent calculation, 328 is more than 300.
That “small” creature is a rocket, even with her little 17 inch wheels. The increase in torque is SO NOTIFIABLE that it might shred tires. Since I always drive with the traction control set to “off,” I had to be careful not to power slide through curves. We put it to the test on the highway on the way home. She isn’t a big fan of cars, so when I urged her to “go” over the phone, she made a mistake with the accelerator. I enjoyed her error for exactly three tenths of a second before watching in shock as her 3.0t initially retreated before walking away from my 3.7 at full throttle. True incident
Although the DAS steering is unique, I enjoyed it. The chaos I’d been told to believe it to be was not there. In comparison, my 2015 S seemed extremely Bmer-like, and I’m sure that DAS is just different, not worse…or better.
I eagerly await the day when my beastie will be at least as quick as her 3.0t; perhaps following a date with a SC. But for now, I have to deal with the unpleasant fact that her car is significantly faster than mine.
