Infiniti produces some of the most attractive vehicles on the market, including the QX60, in my opinion. This six-seater, which is based on the concept car with the same name, does a masterful job of concealing its connection to the Pathfinder while smoothing some of Infiniti’s more peculiar design choices. A simplified floating roof design, vertically bookended by slight kicks in the chrome trim at the roofline and beltline, replaces the kinked C/D-pillar treatment present on the QX50, Q50 sedan, and Q60 coupe on this Infiniti.
With thin headlamps and a substantial grille, the fascia is elegant and beautiful. The black diamond design on the grille and lateral intakes is attractive, although Infiniti refrained from overdoing the brightwork. Similar may be said about the barely perceptible “INFINITI” embossing on the lower part of the chromed grille surround. But along with the lower side sills and tailgate, this car’s bodywork features four separate wordmarks. It’s a little bit too much, especially towards the rear.
This back logotype’s fussiness marries the QX60’s otherwise attractive tail, which is especially frustrating. A black shiny strip connects the two units as the narrow taillights wrap over the rear fenders. I’d probably order a lighter hue to showcase the QX60’s butt because the sophisticated touches of the appealing tailgate and the black finish of the contrasting roof are harder to see on the Deep Bordeaux color.
However, there is little doubt about the interior color palette I would pick – this Saddle Brown is stunning. The semi-aniline leather, which is exclusive to the Autograph and is more tan than brown, feels luxurious and is found almost everywhere. It features a stunning diamond-quilted design on the dash and seats. The large door inserts, which are a nice combination of brown and black, might have used more stitching as well, but unfortunately. Restrained ambient lighting, a thin strip of open-pore wood, and white piping top the dash, adding a wonderful pop of color. A nice touch is also having climate vents that are well integrated.
However, a lot of the switchgear seems the same as it does on the Nissan Pathfinder. This includes the weak electric gear shifter and the feeble climate controls, which lack the responsiveness I anticipate from a luxury item. The drab, plastic buttons on the steering wheel, which came from Nissan, might also be improved. Those are the only things I have against the cabin, which is otherwise really well done.
