Are Infiniti QX60s trustworthy?
The quick response is no. The QX60 consistently has dismal dependability ratings. The QX60 is renowned for having troubles with the airbags and service brakes in addition to gearbox problems.
The 2013 Infiniti QX60 model was the vehicle that saw the CVT transmission make its debut. The QX60 will come with a 9-speed automatic transmission in 2022, however all model years after 2013 come with continuously variable transmissions.
That is dependent upon the vehicle’s year. Although the automatic transmission in model years 2017 and earlier is more dependable, its fuel efficiency is significantly below average.
A replacement normally costs between $1,800 and $3,400, without including labor costs (which are often between $500 and $1,200). This estimate does not include taxes or other related expenses.

Overview[edit]
As models for 2017, the vehicles went on sale at the end of 2016. There were two early models: 2.0t and 3.0t (304/405PS).
American-made versions went on sale for the 2017 model year. In August 2016, the earliest variants were the 2.0t, 2.0t AWD, 3.0t (304PS), and 3.0t AWD (304PS), with the Red Sport 400 and Red Sport 400 AWD following later in September 2016. In December 2016, the 3.0t Sport and 3.0t Sport AWD went on sale. Models for the 2017 model year were scheduled to go on sale in Europe in October 2016. Early variants were the 2.0t and 3.0t.
A lower and wider body, second generation Direct Adaptive Steering, Drive Mode Selector with custom settings profile, hydraulic electronic rack and pinion power steering system standard (2.0t), Dynamic Digital Suspension, retuned seven-speed automatic transmission, Active Grille Shutter in V6 engine models, and for the first time, all-new turbocharged engines were just a few of the significant improvements made to the 2017 Q60. For the second generation, the Q60 Convertible wasn’t produced anymore.
The new Q60 may now have a drag coefficient of only 0.28 and no front or back lift thanks to the makeover. This enables the car to maintain stability at high speeds and in crosswinds. The brand-new Active Grille Shutters, which balance the engine’s cooling requirements while simultaneously improving aerodynamics, are to blame for this. When higher performance is needed, the grille shutters open. They remain closed when in regular use.
The 2.0L turbocharged engine from Mercedes-Benz is the only option for the Pure and Luxe trims (Not true, at least not as of 2019; the Pure and Luxe Q60 now comes with a 3.0L turbocharged engine. ), while the Sport and Red Sport get the brand-new 3.0L turbocharged Nissan VR engine. The engine is identical in the Sport and Red Sport trims, but the Red Sport model has been modified to produce 400 horsepower. The Sport trim produces 300 horsepower. All engines are connected to a 7-speed automatic transmission, and the 3.0t has dual automatic transmission coolers as well. The second version did away with the 6-speed manual.
Q60 3.0t (304PS) coupe is the base for Q60 Red Sport 400. There are 20 inch sport aluminum-alloy wheels (staggered for RWD models), exclusive dual brushed satin finish Red Sport 400 exhaust tips, 14″ front and 13.8″ rear rotors, opposed 2 and 4 piston red calipers, sport tuned Digital Dynamic Suspension, semi aniline leather appointed sport seats, aluminum accented pedals and paddle shifters, and red “S” exterior sport badging on the trunk and front fenders.
A variety of new technology and safety measures are also available with the Q60. Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Around View(r) Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Rain Sensing Wipers, and Backup Collision Intervention(r) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert were all included in the ProAssist Package for MY2018. Intelligent Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control, Blind Spot Intervention, Distance Control Assist, Advanced Climate Control System with Plasmacluster and Grape Polyphenol filter, auto leveling Adaptive Front Lighting System with High Beam Assist, front seat pre-crash seatbelts, and Direct Adaptive Steering are all included in the ProActive Package.
Performance – Engine, Transmission, and Other
Every Q60 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 400 horsepower in the Red Sport 400 edition and 300 horsepower in regular form. A seven-speed automatic transmission and either the basic rear-wheel drive or the optional all-wheel drive are used to transmit that power. Although we’ve only driven the 400-horsepower Red Sport 400, the included adaptive dampers and an additional steering system that Infiniti calls Direct Adaptive Steering set it apart from the basic Q60. Additionally, the Red Sport 400 includes bigger wheels with grippier tires and more powerful brakes. Although we enjoyed its accuracy when we drove one without the enhanced steering arrangement, we wished the effort was greater and the helm was more direct. At least the car’s strong brakes gave us a ton of confidence anytime we needed to reduce speed.
Why we approve of the CVT in the Infiniti QX60
We were impressed after a recent test of the Infiniti QX60 luxury 3-row crossover. Like every other vehicle in its class, the Infiniti leaves us wondering who still needs a full-size SUV. Although the QX60 was loaded with features, we discovered that it is the only non-hybrid premium crossover equipped with a CVT. We quickly came to the conclusion that, similar to other recent Nissan vehicles we have tested, we are beginning to like CVTs in our non-performance cars. This type of transmission was first used in a luxury vehicle by Infiniti, and in our opinion it is a success.
Nissan was the first automaker in the American market to use a continuously variable gearbox. These gearless gearboxes had a significant benefit at first. Simply simply, they saw too large of an improvement in fuel economy rankings to ignore. The CVT is simply more efficient than the eight or nine speed geared gearboxes that several automakers are currently selling. However, the two primary characteristics of the CVT horrified auto aficionados who tested the initial generation of them. When they “relaxed” after accelerating, they first droned and made unpleasant noises. Second, the shift-free feeling was strange. The unusual sound and sensation of liquid-fueled cars shifting up and down is a big part of their appeal. We drivers who were exposed to them as children have developed a taste for that.
Nissan and Infiniti tried to improve the sensation of the CVTs in their vehicles by taking into account customer comments. It succeeded. It’s challenging to think of a finer combination for the superb 3.5-liter V6 and CVT. Acceleration, deceleration, and cruising all have nice noises and sensations. The QX60 still has a fantastic engine roar when you floor it, and the CVT settles the engine down at a lower RPM, so there is no drone as you reach your top speed. The CVT is usually smooth when cruising. I now find it a little annoying to feel the changes in the cars I get following a CVT-equipped car or SUV rather than missing them like I would with a geared transmission.
The Consumer Reports Quality Survey Summary recently had a spotlight issue on problematic transmissions, including CVTs made by other automakers. Remember that not all CVTs are created equal. We surmise that a sizable amount of the quality complaints responsible for that outcome may have been attributable to the CVT’s impression. Dual-clutch transmissions, in contrast to CVTs, were also problematic for owners, according to this year’s survey.
Infiniti has put a lot of effort into enhancing and perfecting its continuously variable gearboxes. If you’re thinking about buying a car with one, keep an open mind and don’t take earlier blog posts—even ones I wrote—that advised buyers to avoid the technology too seriously. Things evolve with time. For the better in this instance.
Drivetrain & Engine
The 3.0 liter turbocharged V-6 is standard on both the INFINITI Q60 RED SPORT 400 and RED SPORT 400 AWD models. 400 horsepower is generated by the 24-valve engine’s water-cooled air charge system, turbo speed sensor, and aluminum-alloy block and heads. Additionally, a seven-speed automatic transmission is compatible with both model trims for precise changes across the rev range. For improved traction and handling through the chicanes, choose the RED SPORT 400 AWD. AWD model buyers can anticipate an EPA-estimated 19/26 MPG1 (city/highway). To help stop the more horses, the RED SPORT 400 trim equips the Q60 base model with stronger wheels and brakes.
Does the 2019 Infiniti QX60 feature a CVT?
The QX60 is positioned in the luxury SUV category while being closely connected to the less aristocratic Nissan Pathfinder thanks to a luxurious, quiet, and spacious interior. A smooth 295-hp, V6 engine coupled to a continuously variable transmission powers this three-row crossover.
Our all-wheel-drive QX60 averaged 19 mpg on premium fuel, which isn’t particularly impressive.
Does the 2018 Infiniti QX60 feature a CVT?
2018 Infiniti QX60 photo gallery A continuously variable transmission and a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 295 horsepower are standard on the 2018 Infiniti QX60.
Has the 2017 QX60 been equipped with a CVT?
A continuously variable transmission (CVT), which works like an automatic, is used by both versions. The new engine in the QX60 makes it substantially faster, and critics commend Infiniti for tuning the CVT to feel more like a conventional automatic transmission.
Is there a CVT in the 2015 Infiniti QX60?
Intensity and Power A continuously variable transmission and a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 265 horsepower are standard on the 2015 Infiniti QX60.
Qx80 has CVT transmission, right?
This type is powered by a continuously variable transmission in manual shift mode. The Drive Mode Selector, which synchronizes the transmission and throttle, has four additional options.
What type of transmission is in the Q60?
A 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine powers the Q60 RED SPORT 400. The Q60 RED SPORT 400 provides both value and on-time arrival at the office when you need them. The Q60 RED SPORT 400 is powered by a turbocharged engine that teams with an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and a manual shift mode, in contrast to many performance luxury coupes in this market that have a 4-cylinder engine and cost more.
The driver-adaptive learning algorithm in the Q60 RED SPORT 400 distinguishes it from other performance luxury coupes by learning your driving style, detecting your movements, and making appropriate gearshifts. To enable rev-matching on downshifts and sequentially selectable upshifts, slide the gear lever into manual shift mode.
Which type of transmission does Infiniti employ?
The first new feature that will be available for the future 2022 QX60 has just been revealed by INFINITI: a 9-speed automatic transmission. This will substitute the existing model’s continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is electronically controlled, with a manual shift mode that enables sequentially chosen manual gearshifts.
Do Infiniti vehicles have CVT issues?
Defective CVT Transmission The Infiniti QX60, known as the Pathfinder’s opulent cousin, shares the same transmission with its less expensive sibling, which means that it too suffers the same flaw. For owners of the 2013–2014 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti JX35/QX60, a class action lawsuit was resolved.
Describe the Infiniti CVT.
- The three-row QX60 SUV from Infiniti has received some information.
- Instead of the existing model’s CVT, it will have a new design with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
- The new QX60 should go on sale later this year and we’ll soon get to see it in its entirety.
Infiniti is prepared to discuss the upcoming 2022 QX60 luxury three-row SUV now that its less expensive Nissan Pathfinder sibling has made its debut. Similar to the Pathfinder, this new model will have a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) that will be replaced by a new, nine-speed automatic from the supplier ZF. The 3.5-liter V-6 in the QX60 will continue to produce 295 horsepower, which is a little bit more than what is found in the Nissan.
Although the style of the new model isn’t very evident in these fresh photographs of a QX60 prototype, we did get a sneak peek last year due to the QX60 Monograph idea. This gave away a lot of the exterior styling of the new QX60, which looks considerably more premium and contemporary than the current model, which has been on the market since 2013, when it was first introduced as the JX35.
The interior of the concept car was absent, but we anticipate that it will advance much as well. It probably has nicer components, more features, and a more modern tech interface. Like before, there will be three rows of standard seating, and we anticipate that the available seating configurations will be similar to the Pathfinder’s. The Nissan currently provides two seating configurations: a seven-passenger configuration with newly optional second-row captain’s chairs, or an eight-passenger configuration with a three-place bench in the second and third rows.
Look for official images and other details to arrive over the next several months, as Infiniti has promised to provide more information on the 2022 QX60 soon. Later this year, it will be sold in the United States.
