Does Infiniti Q50 Have Carplay?

Apple Carplay has been available on several different car brands since 2016. Beginning with a USB-only option, connectivity has since expanded to include wireless connectivity in recent models.

Infiniti Q50 introduced the Apple CarPlay option in 2020. By 2021, the Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Red Sport 400 trims included it as standard equipment.

Infiniti Q50 is still in production and has just received wireless Apple CarPlay improvements.

When looking for your next vehicle, Infiniti believes that a plethora of newly standard features would encourage you to think about the Q50.

Gran Turismo was the beginning of it all. Sean has always had a fascination with things that move thanks to his early PlayStation days. He worked as a freelancer for Motor Authority, The Car Connection, and Green Car Reports before joining the Roadshow team. Sean has a 2016 Chevrolet SS, and it does have Holden badges, in the garage.

The Infiniti Q50 has been around for eight years, if you don’t count model years, but the Japanese luxury automaker isn’t quite ready to call it quits just yet. The 2022 Q50, on the other hand, comes with more standard features and a starting price of $43,125 after a $1,025 destination fee. It’s also not merely a value play because the Q50’s base Pure trim is no longer available. The car’s starting price was previously $37,645, but the Luxe trim is now the new base model.

However, the new standard equipment is quite generous. The seats are now covered in genuine leather, there are 16 speakers of Bose Performance Series music packed into the doors, dash, and various trim pieces, and the vehicle is now wirelessly compatible with Apple CarPlay. Everything is already included in the new starting price. Android users are still out of luck and must utilize a USB-A or USB-C port to connect in order to use Android Auto.

Since the Pure trim is no longer available, there is still a $400 price increase over the 2021 model when comparing apples to apples. And an additional $2,000 is required for your Q50 to get all-wheel drive. The Q50 Red Sport 400 costs $56,975, and the Q50 Sensory trim is available for $48,825.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engines in each vehicle are still mated to seven-speed automatic transmissions. The Red Sport 400, as its name suggests, produces 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the Luxe and Sensory trims produce 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The sedan’s powertrain hasn’t been altered in any way.

This week, the new vehicles will begin arriving at Infiniti dealers. The Q50’s future feels pretty hazy at this time, so if you want one, snag one quickly. Why don’t you call it the Red Sport 400?

For the majority of newer vehicles, Infiniti is providing complimentary wireless CarPlay upgrades.

Owners of a few different car models can now get wireless CarPlay as a free update thanks to an announcement from Infiniti. Owners of Q50, Q60, QX50, and QX80 models made in 2020 and after may now get wireless CarPlay added to their vehicles as a free upgrade, the company announced today.

The free upgrade program will be accessible until March 31, 2022, according to Engadget. In order to add wireless CarPlay capability, qualified owners must “go on over to their local dealership and hang out for approximately an hour,” while technicians install and update the car’s software.

CarPlay will be a free update for owners of the QX80, Q50, Q60, and Q60 SUVs in 2020 and 2021, according to an announcement made by Infiniti on Thursday. Owners of Infiniti vehicles only need to visit their nearby dealership and wait for around an hour while workers install and update the required software. The upgrade service is only accessible through March 31, 2022, so move quickly.

It is wonderful to see Infiniti offer this as a completely free update rather than charging for it, even though needing to visit an Infiniti store isn’t the most convenient upgrade experience.

The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is Apple CarPlay compatible, right?

The 2018 Infiniti Q50 is Apple CarPlay compatible.

Some automakers drastically redesign the sheetmetal and fascia of their mid-cycle vehicle updates, while others choose a more conservative approach, making minor adjustments here and there. The changes to the 2018 Infiniti Q50 are somewhat subtle when using the latter strategy.

As I approach my Q50 Red Sport 400 test vehicle in Nashville, it doesn’t appear to have undergone much change from the 2017 version. However, according to Infiniti, the Sport model-specific front is brand-new and has a double-arch grille, wider air dams, a more pronounced front lip, and LED accent lights.

This most performance-focused variant in the Q50 collection has a more aggressive appearance from the back thanks to thinner LED bulbs and a two-tone lower diffuser.

As Infiniti maintained the primary arrangement of the dash untouched, slipping onto the driver’s seat feels comfortable. Some people may be able to see minor differences, such as the thicker steering wheel, shifter, and more accent stitching on top of the dashboard, if they look closely enough.

I navigate the carryover Infiniti InTouch infotainment system, which has a responsive 7-inch touchscreen below and an 8-inch screen at the top of the center console, as I start along the driving path. My preferred satellite radio station is playing on the incredible 16-speaker Bose sound system, and the navigation map is quickly shown.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not yet supported by the Q50’s infotainment system, but an Infiniti official promises that they will be in the future.

The Direct Adaptive Steering technology that came standard on my car from Infiniti initially lacked feel and input. The steer-by-wire technology no longer gives the impression that it is disconnected from anything because it is now in its second generation and is benefiting from constant improvement. When the Drive Mode Selector is set to Standard, the weight and responsiveness feel more natural when driving through the city, but when you select Sport Plus, the response is immediate and there is no dead spot whatsoever.

Even with Dynamic Adaptive Steering’s advancements, I still choose the rack-based electric power steering system that comes as standard on V6 Q50 vehicles.

No big issues with the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that continues to churn away under the hood and delivers 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque to my right foot. With the seven-speed automatic transmission’s seamless cog changes, getting onto the expressway to travel south is simple. Although using the steering wheel paddles to manually change ratios is an option, the computer did all the work for me for the majority of the day due to sluggish shift orders.

Considering the output, the engine and gearbox combination is also reasonably efficient. It achieves 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

My only issue with the drivetrain is that the blown V6’s exhaust tone is subdued. Even with the throttle wide open, the audible belch doesn’t make one feel anything. Fortunately, Infiniti does sell a few sport exhausts through dealers all across the country. A muffler-less system for the loudest soundtrack costs $589, while a throaty but yet refined kit with mufflers has a suggested retail price of $681.

Southwest of Nashville, the Red Sport 400 comes to life a little more after you get off the highway and onto more intriguing sections of road. Sport Plus increases steering response while also tightening the adaptive Dynamic Digital Suspension, the gearbox behavior, and the throttle response. The staggered 19-inch Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires hold the 3,840-pound car steady as it curves.

Has the 2017 Q50 Apple CarPlay?

Infiniti’s Q50 does not accept Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, the GPS system does not provide lane guidance, and adaptive cruise control requires a series of expensive extras.

Can my INFINITI get Apple CarPlay?

The main drawback is that Infiniti owners are unable to upgrade the infotainment system to support Apple CarPlay on their own. Owners of 2020 and 2021 Infiniti cars will have to visit their nearby Infiniti dealership and wait for the required software to be installed and updated, which will take roughly an hour. This upgrade is free and comes with no conditions.

Has the 2020 Q50 Apple CarPlay?

A new iteration of the infotainment system, with an 8.0-inch higher touchscreen and a 7.0-inch lower one, is installed in all 2020 Q50 variants. The largest improvement is that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now included as standard features and operate via the top screen. Up to seven devices can connect to an available Wi-Fi hotspot, and the updated infotainment system has improved map visuals and even Google Street View. This new infotainment system will support over-the-air update installation by users.
