Hyundai: The Tucson’s interior is stylish and has a cockpit-like feel thanks to the wraparound dash design. The distinctive four-spoke steering wheel also allows for pleasant cruising. Most of the components are high-quality, including a 10.3-inch touchscreen that effortlessly fits into the center console, heavy aluminum fittings all over the steering wheel, and dash.
However, the infotainment system’s surround, which is piano black plastic, appears flimsy and gets dirty easily. The shiny material needs frequent wiping downs to stay clean because it attracts fingerprints like a magnet. Additionally, this model lacks actual dials for the HVAC, tuning, or volume controls. Instead, there are “buttons” with haptic feedback that are located on top of the ugly piano black trim. Simple activities like altering the airspeed or cranking up the volume become extremely difficult.

The Tucson also offers the most cargo space in its class, with 74.8 cubic feet of room available when the 60/40-split back seats are folded flat and 38.7 cubic feet behind the second row.
Nissan: The Rogue chooses a silky matte black plastic over portions of the steering wheel and door panels, with high-quality black plastic filling in the spaces in between, as opposed to false piano black trim. The Rogue, unlike the Tucson, still maintains physical dials for the climate and audio controls on all models, which is greatly welcomed. There are also no residual fingerprints.
The leather seats and accent stitching on the steering wheel that come standard on our SL tester have a premium feel to them. The seats themselves are among the best in the industry; Nissan’s unique “Zero-Gravity” buckets are among my favorite choices for long-distance rides since they provide plenty of back and butt support and properly conform to the body.
The Tucson has 108.2 cubic feet greater total passenger capacity than the Rogue (105.3 vs. 105.3 cubic feet), but the Rogue has 1.3 inches more front headroom and a tiny bit more front legroom. Although Nissan’s 38.5 inches of legroom and 37.8 inches of headroom are still competitive for the class, the second row of the Hyundai is slightly better than the Rogue’s. Although the Tucson is larger, the Rogue has a minor advantage due to its airy front row, luxurious seats, analog controls, and a tidy interior design.
