Kemp said at a ceremony at the future location of the facility, which will be close to Interstate 16 about 20 miles northwest of Savannah. “After today, no one can doubt that Georgia is not only leading the great recovery as a whole, but we’re also the unmatched leader in the nation’s emerging electric mobility industry,” Kemp said.
Kemp boasted that it will result in the creation of almost 8,100 jobs, calling it the biggest economic development initiative in the history of the state. Hyundai anticipates starting construction in January 2023 and aiming to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually once at full capacity in 2025. With an additional $1 billion from suppliers, the business will invest approximately $5.5 billion in the factory.
Its revelation comes just after Rivian Automotive, an electric vehicle manufacturer located in California, revealed intentions to erect a $5 billion facility east of Atlanta.
