Although the majority of crossover owners never go off-roading, automakers continue to provide tough off-road kits designed for consumers who lead active lifestyles. With the addition of the new XRT Appearance Trim level, the Hyundai Santa Fe in 2022 will be the most recent crossover to offer such a model. The Santa Fe XRT was originally revealed by Hyundai along with a comprehensive overhaul for the 2022 model year, but this is the first time we’ve seen any images of the car.
The SEL with Convenience package, a mid-level model below the Limited and Calligraphy, is built upon in the XRT trim. The only available engine for the Hyundai XRT is the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai will not offer the XRT as a hybrid. Sadly, the XRT does not offer the 2.5-liter turbo-four with 272 horsepower and an eight-speed dual-clutch.
Although Hyundai calls the XRT a “rugged, bold, new appearance for enthusiasts,” it is evident that this vehicle was not intended for extreme off-roading. Only front-wheel drive is offered as standard on the XRT, and it costs $32,300; HTRAC all-wheel drive costs $34,000. For comparison, the XRT is merely a $1,600 improvement over the $30,700 SEL trim with the Convenience Package ($32,400 with AWD).
For this tiny additional cost, the XRT gets a matte black grille, dark silver skid plates, a black lower bumper fascia molding, special side steps, black door moldings, and 18-inch dark alloy wheels. It also includes a black mirror cover, black roof rails, and a matte black roof. Hyundai doesn’t mention any ride height or tire adjustments, but these enhancements give the Santa Fe a more aggressive appearance.
According to Hyundai, the Santa Fe XRT is currently arriving at dealerships. The Tucson XRT, which will presumably receive similar modifications, is still without any photographs. The Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp and other midsize off-road appearance package vehicles will be the Santa Fe XRT’s rivals. Another rival is the Subaru Outback Wilderness, however it has superior tires and a raised suspension.

When did the Santa Fe start having engine issues?
