Hi everybody, I recently exchanged my 2016 Elantra for a 2019 Elantra Value Edition, and I’m at a loss as to how to activate the fog lights. In contrast to my 2016 model, the light switch stalk doesn’t appear to have a setting for fog lights. Additionally, I can’t find any reference to fog lights in the owner’s manual, leading me to question whether the triangle “fog lights” on the front of the car are indeed fog lights or merely fake lenses. If the 2019 Value Edition includes fog lights, does anyone know how to turn them on? If so, please provide details. Thanks!

Do the Hyundai Elantra’s fog lights work in 2021?
The Limited variant, which will be offered on both the old Elantra and the new Elantra Hybrid, was presented to us. There are no planned packages for this trim; it is the most fully loaded version of the new sedan. We had a week to explore every inch of the vehicle and get a sense of what buyers may anticipate once they start showing up in dealerships. The interior has already been discussed, including five features we adore (and one we don’t). It’s time to examine outside more closely with the following text, images, and video.
Hyundai describes the design of the new Elantra as a “parametric dynamics” experiment. Simply put, it is a collection of largely straight lines intersecting to form angular surfaces. Because of how angular it is, our West Coast Editor James Riswick questioned whether a knife fanatic would have designed it.
The Elantra’s exterior essentially has three distinguishing features. The Z-shaped sculpting that is clearly seen in the sedan’s profile is the most significant. Starting immediately beyond the front wheel well and ending where the taillight meets the integrated rear spoiler, this form spans every panel on the Elantra’s flanks. In person, the effect is exactly as powerful as it is in pictures.
Another of the Elantra’s prominent eye-catchers may be seen where that line comes to an end. Many of the lines that run along the Elantra’s sides come together in the tier-like appearance of the rear box, or trunk section, and from some angles, when it’s not shouting “Honda Civic,” it even has a somewhat Saab-like appearance. If you have to, squint, but it’s there.
The “H” formed by the Elantra’s full-width rear illumination, which is emphasized (accent-ed? ) by the pronounced overhang of its trunklid, is the third highlight. Back here, there’s a lot going on that, when considered independently, poses the risk of becoming overly crowded. But at a distance, it functions.
All of the Elantra’s minor elements are angular in design. The front grille, fog lamp bezels, and rear bumper finisher are almost entirely made of straight lines.
Please note that the panel fit and finish are both pre-production and that some aspects may alter significantly before the 2021 Hyundai Elantra hits showrooms this autumn as you go through our pictures. We anticipate getting our hands on a production model of Hyundai’s new compact soon enough to do a complete road test. Remain tuned.
On a car, where are the fog lights?
Fog lights, also known as fog lamps, are tiny, block- or sphere-shaped lights that are situated below your car’s headlights on the front end. Since they are slanted differently than standard headlights, the light immediately illuminates the road in front of you rather than shining several feet over it.
Front fog lamps are used when visibility is compromised by bad weather, such as when it’s foggy, rainy, misty, or dusty. Fog lights are safer and more desired by many drivers because headlights can be overly bright in low visibility situations and reflect into the driver’s eyes.
The absence of fog lights in your car can now be considered the standard. Since fog lights are only compatible with a few makes and models, not every automobile has them. In fact, fog lights are now found on fewer cars than ever before as newer models do away with them entirely. The phase-out of fog lights, however, only applies to the front: Many states still have laws requiring rear fog lights because they are thought to be essential for sharing the road with other motorists.
How soon should I activate my fog lights?
Yes, but solely for the intended use of making your car visible in low-light situations.
All vehicles are legally required to have rear fog lights. Only a few models come with front fog lights, which are typically an ornamental upgrade for higher-end vehicles. Daytime running lights, which are standard equipment on all new automobiles, are also meant to make them more visible to other drivers.
Fog lights on an automobile are designed to make it more visible in situations where visibility is less than 100 meters. You can’t see farther along the road in the fog with fog lights.
You should activate your primary headlights when driving in the fog or in other low visibility situations. When visibility is less than 100 meters, you should turn on your fog lights in addition to your dipped headlights.
Rear fog lights can block your brake lights, making it difficult for cars to see when you’re stopping. When there is good vision, both the front and rear fog lights produce unwanted glare that can blind and irritate other drivers.
Now that the confusion surrounding fog lights has been resolved, why not read our article on when to use dipped headlights?

Should fog lights be on all the time?
The Highway Code states that you should only turn on your fog lights when your vision is decreased to 100 meters (328 feet), or no more than a football field, or less.
You run the risk of endangering other drivers if you use it when you can see farther than the advised distance.
In order to avoid blinding other drivers, the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations of 1989 expressly forbid the use of front and rear fog lights when not necessary.
They can also be used in mild rain and drizzle. Getting pulled over by the police could result in a driving fine.
On the other hand, your insurance provider can reject your claim if you get into a car accident when you need to have turned on your fog lights.
Because of this, it’s crucial to use your fog lights properly and think about purchasing a car with a dashboard fog light that turns on when necessary.

What purpose do fog lights serve?
Fog lights are made to be utilized slowly in poor visibility conditions like fog, snow, heavy mist, and fog. Compared to daytime running lights, they are distinct. They are a second set of lights that are installed low on the car in the belief that fog hangs 12 to 18 inches above the road rather than settling on it. They shine light into this clear air layer. Additionally, they point right enough for the motorist to see the solid, white “fog line” that serves as a guide at the side of the road.
Each state has its own regulations regarding the use of car fog lights, commonly known as fog lamps. The most important thing to remember is that fog lights cannot be used in a way that causes glare for other vehicles. They must be used and pointed in a way that won’t obstruct another driver’s view by more than 25 feet. Here are the details.
Low beams serve as fog lights?
No. Only certain cars have fog lights, which have a distinct beam and are not needed by law. On their own independent assembly, fog lights are often placed in the front bumper of a car or truck.
Your car’s headlight system, which normally rests on top of your front bumper, has both low beams and high beams.
What does the fog light represent?
Typically, you can find them next to the dial you use to operate your regular lights, on a stalk of the steering wheel, or on a button on the dashboard.
Your car’s dashboard or the actual fog light button will include a symbol that indicates whether the rear or front fog lights are on. This sign is typically an amber or green indicator.
If your automobile has automatic lights that turn on when there is insufficient light, make sure the lights are on because they might not in foggy situations.
