How To Remove Hyundai Rear View Mirror?

Registered

Can somebody tell me how to take the rearview mirror off? Without success, I’ve tried tugging, turning, and twisting. I wish to install a self-dimming mirror with Home Link buttons because I have grown accustomed to them in my other vehicles.

In his 2007 Accent, my friend unintentionally broke the mirror mount from the window. I was able to see how the mirror is attached to the mount thanks to this. It is actually pretty easy to fix; all that is needed is a spring to hold the end of the rearview mirror “stem” to the plastic mount that is bonded to the glass. The mirror can easily removed by simply pushing it up toward the ceiling and letting go (with some effort). You don’t want to snap the plastic retainer that is attached to the window off, so take care not to twist it.

Speaking of the plastic retainer, I have a lot of problems with it. It turns out that the plastic retainers that Hyundai used on the Accents are not compatible with the glues that the auto glass firms have available; only the metal retainers that are attached to the windows are. None of them are aware of how to reinstall the window retainer. Even though I’ve tried contacting the dealerships, they claim that Hyundai doesn’t record this information. I’m going to start a new thread, so perhaps someone here is aware.

You might not get a response because this is an old thread, and you might be restarting an old thread. Consider starting a new thread, please.

So, when riding or listening to (loud) music, I’ve heard of males who experience the rearview mirror facing the floor problem. I experienced it for a few years, and because it bothered me so much, I looked up a solution.

Since English is not my first language, please accept my sincere apologies for any misspelled words or sentences.

1. Step inside the vehicle and take the small plastic base cap off either by hand, with a flat screwdriver, or, for optimal results, with a plastic removal tool. additionally take off the white plug that is fastened to the mirror.

2. If you are careful with your possessions, you now have to perform an absurd task. Grab the plastic holder above the mirror and shove it in the direction of the hood. Be cautious though, as if it shoots loose, you might damage some inside components.

3. We can continue with this DIY now that the rearview mirror is off the window. Press the plastic surround/ridge with your finger as you lift it off the mirror; a click system holds it in place.

4. The mirror can now be removed, but take care because it is still connected by a connector. Carefully remove and wiggle the plug out of the socket.

5. Place everything on a secure area of the table or other work surface, holding the final open portion. You will observe a screw and a gray, nearly triangle-shaped item that serve to secure the rearview mirror to the ballhead. You currently have no options other than to tighten that screw. and then reassemble everything.

How to Replace a Rearview Mirror

A generic replacement mirror is readily available at your neighborhood auto parts store. Purchase a rearview mirror replacement kit while you’re there. These kits typically come with the glue, cleaning supplies, and hardware.

A Replacement Mirror Source

Usually, you have to replace the entire unit; you cannot just replace the mirror glass. If your mirror has auto-dimming glass or electrochromatic technology, check with your nearby car dealer for an OEM replacement. If your car doesn’t have this technology, the majority of generic rearview mirrors work with various makes and models.

  • Delete the old mirror
  • Mark the original mounting place on the glass’ outside with a small piece of masking tape.
  • If the mirror has an electronic compass or a dimming feature, unplug the wiring harness.
  • In order to remove the mirror from the glass-mounted hardware, locate the appropriate screw or clip and remove it.
  • To loosen the adhesive holding the mounting hardware to the glass, use a heat gun or blow dryer.
  • Heat the area of the windshield where the mirror hardware is mounted, then use your fingers to slowly pry the mount free. The glass should ideally be heated by a helper while you remove the interior hardware from the car. Be careful since too much heat will cause the windshield to crack.
  • To break the link between the glass and the mirror mount, you might need to use a tiny piece of piano wire or fishing line. Use a flossing motion to work the wire or line that is tethered to the mirror mount and the glass to release it. Only use force that is parallel to the glass; avoid attempting to tear the hardware off because you risk losing a piece of glass in the process.
  • Prepare Surface

Use a razor blade, glass cleaner, or rubbing alcohol to cut through old glue; take care not to harm the glass. Before continuing, clean the surface with a rag and glass cleaner and let it dry. Use any cleaning or preparation wipes that included with your windshield replacement kit right away.

  • Putting in the Mirror
  • Not all kits are created equal; carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Apply the activator, if one was included in the kit, to the mounting hardware and the windshield. If necessary, give the activator a few minutes to dry.
  • Not the windshield itself, but the mirror mounting hardware, should get the glue. To install the mirror mount, locate the original mounting location using the tape you applied to the outside of the windshield. Regarding glue cure times, consult the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Install your new rearview mirror after the glue has fully dried.

A rear-view mirror, often known as a rearview mirror, is a flat mirror seen in cars and other vehicles that allows the driver to see out the back window (rear windshield).

The rear-view mirror in cars is typically mounted on a double-swivel mount at the top of the windshield. This allows it to be adjusted to fit the height and viewing angle of any driver and to swing out of the way safely in the event that it is struck by another vehicle occupant during an accident.

On trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles, the rear-view mirror is supplemented by one or more side-view mirrors, which act as the only rear-vision mirrors.

The functions of the buttons on my rearview mirror.

So how does the mirror switch function in practice? Actually, it’s quite easy. Your rear-view mirror glass is actually a wedge of glass with a thicker end than a thinner end; it is not flat. The wedge moves when the switch at the base of the rearview mirror is flipped. This alters how light is reflected back and how it goes through it.

The back surface of the mirror reflects light and images when in daylight driving mode. The front part is in charge of what you see when you turn the switch and rotate the mirror glass. The image is darker and the glare from headlights behind you is significantly less since light and images must first pass through the rear side of the glass before striking the front and reflecting back to you.

As you would while flossing your teeth, place some floss behind the mirror surface and work the floss back and forth, applying pressure to the glue, until all of the adhesive has been removed and the mirror has come off.

There are a couple different ways to get the adhesive buildup off the mirror. You might apply cooking oil, WD-40, or alcohol on the adhesive and scrub it until it completely comes off.

Rearview mirrors’ method of attachment

Most cars use a straightforward adhesive joint to secure the rearview mirror to the windshield. The ravages of heat, humidity, and time, as well as the added tension of a pound of fuzzy dice or a kewpie doll ornament swinging back and forth for years, can cause the glue to fail.
