I own a 2007 Santa Fe 4 door model. I’ll need to buy new license plate bulbs because the old ones have ceased working. The issue is that I can’t open the lid to access the bulbs since the screws have rusted away. Unfortunately, in order to access the bulbs, I had to pull out the cover.

1. From where can I purchase stainless steel screws to swap out my old, rusted ones?

2. Where can I obtain the component that houses the license plate bulb?

I would like to purchase new ones as well as new screws to hold in place as I had to dislodge the housing that held the bulb.

How is a license plate light bulb installed?

It’s easy to replace a burned-out number plate bulb:

  • Find your license plate lights first. Most cars have two little lights right over the license plate. It’s a good idea to replace both of these bulbs at once, even if only one of them has blown. If one bulb blows, it’s likely that the other will not be far behind.
  • A Phillips head screwdriver should work to remove the lamp cover. Each lid will have two screws. Put the screws in a secure location so you can replace them later.
  • Old bulbs should be removed. Most of the time, it will be simple to remove. For confirmation that you have the right bulb, check the fitting on it (or the car manual).
  • Place the new bulb in. LEDs can replace incandescent bulbs, however the replacement bulb should fit without any difficulty. Be careful not to touch the bulb’s glass.
  • Reinstall the cover and tighten the screws.
  • To check that your new light is functioning, start your car and all of the lights. LEDs should turn on right away but incandescent bulbs could need a few seconds to warm up. Ensure that the new bulbs you buy have enough brightness to clearly illuminate your license plate.

That’s all, then! If you fitted LEDs, your license plate bulbs should survive for a very long time. In order to prevent getting stopped by the police, make sure to check them frequently.

What does a number plate’s blue strip mean?

Numerous license plates for cars have a blue strip on the left side that features the EU flag and the letters “GB.” The same was visible on driving permits as well.

But now that the UK has left the EU, the government has planned a “makeover” for both. Due to the change in look, neither licenses nor number plates will now display the EU flag.

Existing licenses and plates will remain valid, but only new or renewed ones will now come with the new-style licenses.

The announcement follows the government’s confirmation of easier international driving for UK drivers. Due to new accords, British citizens won’t need an international driving permit to drive throughout the EU’s 27 member states, and many will no longer require them to display a “GB sticker” as long as their license plate displays the Union Jack or Great Britain.

“Changing the designs of our driving licenses and number plates is a historic occasion for British motorists, and a reassertion of our independence from the EU one year after our leave,” said Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

“Looking ahead, these reforms guarantee that those who wish to drive in the EU may continue to do so easily, whether it’s for work or for holidays abroad.”

Shapps displayed the updated look on Twitter, replacing the EU flag with the Union Flag. Since January 1, the fresh designs have been released in initial batches.
