Concerning the 2004 Hyundai Sonata’s headlights
My 2004 Hyundai Sonata’s headlight housings were changed. Since it was simple, I decided to write about it. Since the headlight housing is the same for the 2002, 2003, and 2005 Sontas, this presumably applies to those as well.
On eBay, I bought the housings from auto lighthouse. I’m pleased with the purchase, and my housings arrived quickly and with the bulbs already attached.
Three bolts (10 mm metric) are present; two are on top (first image) and one is on the bottom (yellow circled). Simply undo and slightly pull the unit out and upward. Unplug two cords after the housing is separated from the body. A push-in latch is present on the connectors (yellow arrows). To view a larger image, click on the image.
By the low beam (yellow circle), I noticed a screw or gear that I think is for the Up-Down adjustment. I saw another one near the high beam (red circle), which is likely for the high beam’s up-down? The horizontal adjustment appears to be fixed, but I couldn’t find any screws to do it. There might be a plastic cap on the screws.
An H7 bulb is used for the low beam. Given how packed the bulb region is, I believe it is simpler to pull the housing unit out (which only takes a few minutes) and reach the bulbs. To replace, first remove the bulky plastic cap, which reveals the bulb. Cut the cord (red arrow, first picture). A holding tension clip is visible (yellow arrow, second picture). As shown in the third image, push it down and rotate it out of the holder (yellow arrow). The bulb can then be removed. Avoid touching the glass surface with bare fingers when installing the replacement bulb, and try to avoid scraping the glass surface against the metal casing. There is just one way the bulb can travel; look for the notch (red arrow)

How is a burned-out headlight replaced?
