At the end of August 2021, my wife and I placed an order for a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited, and we were informed that the best estimate for delivery was 45 to 90 days. There hasn’t been a new updated ETA in the past 60 days.

I regret not thinking of this forum before my terrible shopping experience. Long story short, we are located in Massachusetts and have had two terrible dealer experiences. One had no cars and seemed uninterested in selling any, and the other at least had one non-hybrid to look at, but they were both unhelpful and patronizing after that. We ended up in New Hampshire at a fantastic dealership. I said that we were prepared to buy a car and only needed to go behind the wheel of one. They texted to say they had, but when we arrived, the car was actually being bought. Nevertheless, they let us test drive a Santa Fe Hybrid so we could see how the drivetrain worked. They gladly placed an MSRP (Limited Hybrid) order for us and let us know it would take 2–7 months. We placed the order on March 6th, and on Monday, April 18, I received a text message from the salesperson “I just wanted to let you know that the Tuscon Hybrid limited that you bought is currently in production. Once it’s finished and on its way to the United States, I’ll give you another update.” I’ll update as I learn more.

How much time does it take to make a new car?
1. It might take a while. A domestic car will most likely be produced to your requirements and delivered to your dealer in six to eight weeks. With an import, you may factor in the time it takes to travel over an ocean and the time it takes to get from the port, so it might take many months.
2. You may not receive the exact item you requested. Due to the complexity of the automotive industry, there are frequently discrepancies between what is advertised on manufacturer websites and what is actually offered. Unexpectedly frequently, a car manufacturer will advertise a feature or option only to learn that the supplier can’t provide the systems, components, or parts quickly enough. For instance, a car manufacturer may have thought that just 20% of its customers would choose the V-6 engine, but in the two years since that choice was made, gas prices have decreased, and 40% of dealer orders are for vehicles with the V-6. You can see the potential for issues by multiplying that possibility by the number of important systems in a typical car.
3. In the majority of states, only authorized new-vehicle dealers are permitted to sell you a car. Therefore, even if you order the car “from the factory,” you must purchase it from a dealer. The dealership may be less likely to offer a price reduction because it has no financial stake in the yet-to-be-built vehicle. The salesman may have to deal with the inconvenience of walking you through the options list slowly and laboriously. Even after that is done, the dealer still has no guarantee that the car you select will be made. That doesn’t seem like the formula for a fantastic discount offer, does it?
However, if you do configure and order your next vehicle, keep the aforementioned considerations in mind. The benefits and drawbacks of purchasing a car from a nearby dealer are listed below for balance.
How much time does it take a factory to make a car?
A automobile can be built from scratch in only around 48 hours, and the majority of that time is spent making sure the paint is dry. How much time does it take to assemble a car on a production line?
Anyone who works in the auto industry is aware of how long a car takes to construct. But even to specialists, a new car might occasionally appear like magic since it has excellent technology, no defects, and flawless handling. Have you ever considered the amount of labor that goes into creating an automobile and performing that magic? An average automobile contains 30,000 parts. One mass-market vehicle can be produced by manufacturers in between 18 and 35 hours, starting with the welding process and ending with full engine assembly and painting. That equates to three to four regular shifts, with hundreds of experienced personnel supporting various stages of the procedure.

How long does it typically take to get a new car?
The typical time frame for a new car to leave the factory and arrive at the dealership is six to eight weeks. Now, however, because of a lack of semiconductor computer chips and production issues brought on by Covid-19, that wait has significantly lengthened for some manufacturers and models.
Up to 1400 computer chips may be needed in new automobiles to control a variety of devices, including active driver safety systems, infotainment screens, and electric windows.
The tremendous decline in automobile sales and the enormous rise in demand for computers and other electrical devices in 2020 drew chip production away from the automotive industry, which is the cause of the chip shortage.
This was made worse by a sharp increase in new car sales in the latter half of 2020, which caught many automakers off guard and left them unable to produce as many vehicles as there was demand for.

What Business Produces Hyundai Engines? For their vehicles, Hyundai and Kia produce the engines. But there is some overlap between the two businesses. For instance, both Hyundai and Kia vehicle models use the Kappa G3LA/G3LC and Kappa G4LD engines.
Why is it so difficult to get my new car?
The delivery of your new automobile can be affected by a variety of factors, some of which are particularly related to factory orders and others which are related to potential problems at the dealership.
“Due to a global shortage of microprocessors, the war in Russia and Ukraine, and factory closures as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns, the automotive industry is currently experiencing significant delays in the manufacturing of vehicles. As a result, several vehicles’ lead times for delivery have been greatly extended.”
How are Hyundai vehicles moved around?
Purchasing the vehicle is one thing, but the dealership then has to move the new stock to their lot. Transporting inventory for dealerships is a lucrative and altogether different sector. For instance, Hyundai has the largest auto production facility in the world in South Korea. Up to 1.6 million automobiles can be produced at the plant annually, and more than 5,000 dealerships and showrooms sell them in 193 different nations. Such an endeavor has extremely high organizational requirements. Thousands of dealerships must receive delivery of all those automobiles and trucks.
In addition to South Korea, Hyundai also runs a number of production sites in the United States and other nations. Several tons are delivered from the Hyundai production sites. These deliveries aren’t your typical consumer products shipping, such as picking up an order of bar soap at the neighborhood grocery store. These automobiles are ordered by dealers in precise models and quantities from the Hyundai manufacturing facilities. For new cars to arrive at the dealership on time and undamaged, an accurate delivery route must be created through a variety of transportation channels.
How about used vehicles? These are also delivered by heavy-duty transportation vehicles across the United States, much like new cars are. In the United States, over 42 million used automobiles are sold annually, with franchise dealers like Tony Hyundai accounting for a third of those sales. When a used car is being transported to an auction or wholesale operation, it may require numerous trips on an auto mover until it is finally placed on the dealership lot.
Additionally, new Hyundais are shipped via train, ship, and air. Up to 8,000 automobiles can be transported at once on a ship built for that purpose, however often only 4,000 to 5,000 are. Ocean liners transport foreign-made automobiles to the United States, including new Hyundais from the significant South Korean manufacturing facility. Before arriving at the dealership, an estimated 65 to 70 percent of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. are transported by rail and auto transport trailers.
