I am one of the frozen chosen who dwell in the actual north. For the past two weeks, the nightly low has been -20 degrees. I watch the VN every day. I downsized to 18-inch winter tires and have snow tires on all four wheels.

On days when it is actively snowing, the day after a snowstorm when the snow is moist, or on any new snow, I drive in Eco. I accelerate from a stop with utmost care, the car almost always wants to slide to the right from a full stop. The car likes the packed snow, and a day or two after the snow, when everything is packed down, I’m back in N-mode. It only becomes a problem when the snow is moist and new. This car handles far better in temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius than it does between +5 and -10 degrees, which is kind of the “shitty zone” for it.

Obviously the typical FWD regulations for snow apply, don’t allow your front wheels slide or spin, if they do you’ve already lost control. Don’t be a hero at uncontrolled crossroads since you’ll need to accelerate in first gear twice or three times as long as usual to prevent spinning the car out of control in the winter. Although stopping isn’t difficult and the ABS is largely effective, don’t take it for granted and come to a halt before other vehicles.

I’m not sure if you reside in the US or Canada, but if you do, the heated steering wheel is fantastic. I no longer even keep gloves in the car.

Hi everyone… I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and the new year. Here in upstate New York, we recently received 6″ of snow. I have 245/40xr18 Continental Contact Viking 7 winter tires on my 2021 Veloster N DCT.

My overall impression of the tires is that they offer excellent traction on snowy and muddy roads, with some initial slipping when the tires are cold, but are afterwards fine on dry surfaces. They offer some good grip with some slide on icy, snowy, or wet roads. The car was driving up the hill without any issues, although slowly, as I drove it on mushy snow at the top of a steep 1500-foot hill. I have the car set to its default eLSD setup. Although there was some slipping on bends, the automobile never spun.

On bumps or rises like speed bumps, the tires offer good cushioning. When I try to push the car’s top speed on dry pavement to 125, it feels as like it is oversteering in the corners, but it is just a strange sensation.
