Your mileage may vary, literally, especially if you frequently drive in Sport mode and press the brake pedal all the way to the floor, but it can achieve higher fuel economy than the previous powertrain.
Our main complaints about the 2017 Santa Fe’s driving dynamics are that, of all things, the ride and handling don’t quite match the performance of the powerplant, and that the dual-clutch transmission may still feel a touch herky-jerky during very low-speed driving. The 19-inch wheels on my car weren’t terrible by any means, but they also weren’t nearly up to spirited driving. At motorway speeds, we also noted a little jitteriness. Some of these problems can get worse if you spend an extra $200 to upgrade to the optional 20-inch wheels. However, a Santa Fe N Line or full N version might challenge the Ford Edge ST for the title of performance SUV that makes you wonder “Why Does This Exist?” if Hyundai decided to fit the Santa Fe with performance tires and tweak the suspension.
