Hyundai will debut its Genesis luxury sedan 2.0 in 2015, but it won’t be the first “2.0” Hyundai product to enter the market. In addition to Hyundai’s second-generation Blue Link telematics system, which was initially unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, the Genesis also has the “Fluidic Sculpture 2.0” design language. Yes, Blue Link is relatively outdated, but we only recently gave it a quick try. Before we share our thoughts with you, let’s go through the main differences between Blue Link generations one and two.
Hyundai has enhanced the functionality of its second-generation Blue Link system to include Google-based point-of-interest search, phone app-based remote-start, the ability to download native apps directly to the vehicle, Apple Siri integration, and a brand-new phone app designed exclusively for the Genesis called Genesis Intelligent Assistant. The Blue Link interface we sampled in the 2015 Genesis appeared largely the same as the Blue Link interface from the first generation, so on the surface, not much has changed. However, we like that the Genesis offers both touch-screen and hard-button controls, and that the menus are rather clear and the screen loads quickly.
The voice- or touch-screen-operated Google POI search offered by the most recent Blue Link stands out because it is quick, thanks to Google’s remarkable ability to understand what you want, and shows the most pertinent information. When we said “gentlemen’s club” into the Genesis’ rearview mirror’s POI button, we immediately saw a lot more possibilities than we had previously known were available to us within a 25-mile radius. Users just scroll through the list using the click wheel on the console, choose their location, and Blue Link brings up directions. It’s that easy.
Additionally, the Genesis-specific app is really useful. It also mines users’ calendars (should they opt in, of course) to provide useful suggestions based on the users’ behaviors and other data streams, in addition to enabling the usual remote-unlock (and lock), remote starting, and vehicle diagnostics services. For instance, the app might notify the user to leave a little early if it discovers your typical departure time from work to home and it is aware of traffic on the way. The defroster can be turned on, the temperature can be adjusted, and even the length of the remote-start activity can be selected thanks to the intelligent remote-start feature.
The car’s built-in data connection, which connects to Verizon’s 3G network, makes all of this possible. In order to support higher-draw data-dependent activities like wifi hotspot and video streaming, Hyundai is considering adding 4G capacity in the future. However, for Blue Link’s existing capabilities, the 3G network is more than adequate, according to our sources. Blue Link’s safety (crash notification, SOS call center help, etc.) and car care-related features are currently free with purchase for three years; the remote-start and stolen-vehicle recovery features, as well as the guidance section that includes the Google POI search, are only accessible with a subscription.
The rest of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis’s impressions, including how it drives, will be revealed very soon, so stay tuned!

I received a remote start package with my 2013 r-spec. An additional key fob was needed for the remote start feature, and both are necessary. The original key fob is the first; the remote start key fob, which features all the original key fob’s buttons in addition to the remote start button, is the second. However, the security proximity is not contained in the remote start fob, thus both are required. Its brand is Hyundai as well.

I recently purchased a new 2015 Genesis Sedan and paid for Bluelink services to enable remote vehicle starting. Recently, I’ve been having problems with it, and the car has been starting on its own without my using the app.
Since the problem began, I’ve enabled a pin to let the car start and replaced it twice. The only way I can think of for the car to start and unlock itself is when I receive a Bluelink app notice, at which point I come outside to find the car running and unlocked.
They weren’t very helpful when I contacted support and the nearby dealership. It’s been more than a month since they announced they were doing study and asked for patience.
The software has been uninstalled, and I once noticed the car acting in this way without it.
