I don’t think the SE has a different system because I have a SEL (non-premium audio) and CarPlay only works with a wire; if your phone is locked, it won’t start. Additionally, avoid using really cheap cables, like as lightning cables, which can only handle charging. A well-known brand or OEM is preferable. The icon isn’t always present; it only appears when the head unit detects that your phone is connected in and unlocked (the phone doesn’t need to be on or unlocked in order for the icon to appear; it simply has to be for the icon to commence). This also applies to my Android phone.
