Hyundai Goes Rugged With Santa Fe XRT, Inspired by Off-Road
Although the majority of crossover owners never go off-roading, automakers continue to provide tough off-road kits designed for consumers who lead active lifestyles. With the addition of the new XRT Appearance Trim level, the Hyundai Santa Fe in 2022 will be the most recent crossover to offer such a model. The Santa Fe XRT was originally revealed by Hyundai along with a comprehensive overhaul for the 2022 model year, but this is the first time we’ve seen any images of the car.
The SEL with Convenience package, a mid-level model below the Limited and Calligraphy, is built upon in the XRT trim. The only available engine for the Hyundai XRT is the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai will not offer the XRT as a hybrid. Sadly, the XRT does not offer the 2.5-liter turbo-four with 272 horsepower and an eight-speed dual-clutch.
Although Hyundai calls the XRT a “rugged, bold, new appearance for enthusiasts,” it is evident that this vehicle was not intended for extreme off-roading. Only front-wheel drive is offered as standard on the XRT, and it costs $32,300; HTRAC all-wheel drive costs $34,000. For comparison, the XRT is merely a $1,600 improvement over the $30,700 SEL trim with the Convenience Package ($32,400 with AWD).
For this tiny additional cost, the XRT gets a matte black grille, dark silver skid plates, a black lower bumper fascia molding, special side steps, black door moldings, and 18-inch dark alloy wheels. It also includes a black mirror cover, black roof rails, and a matte black roof. Hyundai doesn’t mention any ride height or tire adjustments, but these enhancements give the Santa Fe a more aggressive appearance.
According to Hyundai, the Santa Fe XRT is currently arriving at dealerships. The Tucson XRT, which will presumably receive similar modifications, is still without any photographs. The Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp and other midsize off-road appearance package vehicles will be the Santa Fe XRT’s rivals. Another rival is the Subaru Outback Wilderness, however it has superior tires and a raised suspension.
The new Santa Fe Sport concept is being tested in Utah
Hyundai Motor unveiled a number of concept vehicles at the recent 2017 SEMA Show in collaboration with the producer of energy drinks, including the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-roader Santa Fe Sport.
When you think of an SUV, such as a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport crossover, you probably picture a flexible vehicle that is equally at home off-road as it is on the highway. With the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-roader Santa Fe Sport concept car, Hyundai and Rockstar have now chosen to push the Santa Fe Sport even farther. This model can endure the rigors of extreme off-roading in Moab, Utah, which is regarded as one of the most difficult off-road places in the world, as well as any weather scenario you can think of.
One of four concept cars that Hyundai showed at the 2017 SEMA Show, the premier trade-only event for automotive specialty items, was the Santa Fe Concept, which was created by Hyundai Motor America and tuned by Rockstar Performance Garage, the automaker for Rockstar Energy. The others were the HyperEconiq Ioniq Concept, a one-of-a-kind hypermiling-efficiency-focused concept car, the BTR Edition Elantra Sport Concept, and the Vaccar Tucson Sport Concept, which was based on the Tucson Sport crossover.
With a Santa Fe, is off-roading possible?
The Santa Fe had limited off-road capability, like all softroaders, but a skilled off-road driver could take one to locations that could surprise traditionalists. Is a Hyundai Santa Fe a vehicle with high clearance?
One of India’s top automakers produces a high-end product called the Hyundai Santa Fe. This car is designed specifically to offer the Indian customers the utmost comfort and convenience. In general, 200 mm of ground clearance for an SUV is seen to be a good amount, yet this particular vehicle has 185 mm. Therefore, the Hyundai Santa Fe has a slight ground clearance issue, which causes the car to scrape the ground if it is overloaded or traveling quickly on uneven roads.
With a ground clearance of around 220 mm for the Toyota Fortuner and 221 mm for the Renault Koleos, it is evident that the Hyundai Santa Fe lags behind. As a result, the rival vehicles can manage any terrain because the Hyundai Santa Fe has less ground clearance than the Toyota Fortuner and Renault Koleos.

- The easiest approach to increase the likelihood that a Hyundai Santa Fe will last 200,000 miles is to regularly service it. Every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, oil and filter changes are also included.
- Santa Fes from the first generation are incredibly dependable. In later years, reports of engine and gearbox failure, particularly with the 2.4L powerplant, were a problem.
- From 2013 through 2018, a new 2.0L turbocharged engine was installed in Santa Fe SUVs. Too many reports, too, describe failures prior to 100,000 miles.
- The newest Santa Fes, which go on sale in 2019, are the most trustworthy models yet. A fourth-generation Santa Fe should last a very long time based on the limited powertrain concerns.

Would you like to see how far Korean automakers have advanced in terms of quality and appeal? There is no need to look past the Hyundai Santa Fe. Although the second-generation model went upscale with a smoother design and plenty of equipment, it is the current car that has elevated Hyundai to a premium level. Its attractive lines are a long cry from those of the boxy original from 2001.
With its prominent chrome grille, sharp headlights, and limited window area, the design is appealing. Black plastic trim provides an air of off-road sophistication. Additionally, the premium inside has a sleek design and is fully equipped. Choose a Premium variant to enjoy extras like leather seat coverings, climate control, auto lights and wipers, a reversing camera, and satellite navigation. There is a seven-seat model as well, but we would only advise this if the additional space was really necessary because the claustrophobic last row is really only appropriate for little children. Additionally, the five-seater has a boot that is 585 liters larger than the seven-seat version, or 69 liters more.
The Santa Fe is a useful family vehicle that feels secure in slick driving situations thanks to its sophisticated 4WD technology. Additionally, the Hyundai is just as simple to drive when towing a maximum 500kg load thanks to the Trailer Stability Assist feature of the included ESP.
