An L-series engine was coupled to a conventional automatic transmission with a torque converter for the first time with the release of the Fit in Canada and the US. The L12A i-DSI is only sold with a 5-speed manual transmission and is only offered in the local European market Jazz.

The L15A7 (i-VTEC) engine joined the 1.6L Ford Kent engine as a class-legal option for SCCA-sanctioned Formula F competition as of 2010.

My 2010 Insight’s spark plugs were eventually replaced by me. I have now traveled 109000 miles. For those who might like to save some money in the future, I thought I’d offer a brief “how to.”

There are 8 spark plugs; the 4 in the front are fairly simple to access, and the ones in the back are similarly simple to access with a little preparation.

The first thing that needs to be taken off is the plastic shroud that covers the windshield wipers at the base of the windshield. You’ll need to take the windshield wipers off before you can remove it. The wiper bolts are 14 mm in diameter. It’s time to remove the shroud after the wipers have been taken off. This is fastened down using clips rather than bolts. Only the two plastic clips in the corners need to be guarded against breaking or loosing.

The remaining clips, which are all metal and run the length of the shroud, simply snap on and off.

Once the plastic shroud is removed, access to the engine bay’s back is restricted by a metal plate that fastens to the top of the firewall. This is fixed in place by five 10mm bolts.
