Honda has stopped selling the Fit in the United States in favor of a new, fourth-generation model that won’t be offered here. Since the Fit and the HR-V both use the same platform, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to find that the new Fit-based HR-V won’t be sold in the United States.
However, given the popularity of Honda and the expansion of the small-SUV market in the United States, it makes sense to design an HR-V specifically for those consumers. Sales of the HR-V increased significantly in 2019 and were only marginally behind their 2018 total at the end of 2020.
What is the future of the American HR-V? The new HR-V designed specifically for the United States will debut as a 2022 model, with the existing model lasting through the 2021 model year. The 2018 Honda HR-V has two major recalls in addition to having over 40 owner complaints in the NHTSA database.
