Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) from the Japanese manufacturer Honda are part of the Passport range. It was originally a badge-engineered variation of the mid-size SUV Isuzu Rodeo, which was produced between 1993 and 2002. As Honda’s initial foray into the expanding US SUV market of the 1990s, it was unveiled in 1993 for the 1994 model year. Subaru Isuzu Automotive in Lafayette, Indiana produced the first and second generations of the Passport. It reused a moniker from their motorcycle division, the Honda C75 Passport, like many other Honda vehicles do as well. Elsinore and Odyssey were the other two names under consideration; Odyssey would eventually be utilized for a minivan. [4]

The Passport was a part of an alliance between Isuzu and Honda in the 1990s that involved the transfer of trucks like the Passport and Acura SLX from Isuzu to Honda as well as passenger cars like the Isuzu Oasis from Honda to Isuzu. Isuzu stopped making passenger cars in 1993 as a result of company reorganization, and Honda was in severe need of an SUV at the time because the segment was becoming more and more popular in North America and Japan during the 1990s. The cooperation came to an end in 2002 when the Honda-engineered Pilot replaced the Passport.

Honda revealed the Passport brand would return in November 2018 as a two-row mid-size crossover SUV positioned between the CR-V and Pilot. On November 27, 2018, the third-generation Passport made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It is produced by Honda in Lincoln, Alabama, and will be offered for the 2019 model year. [5]

When was Passport released?

Actually, the idea of a universal passport standard is not that ancient. The system actually started less than a century ago.

Immediately following World War I in 1920, the criteria for the League of Nations were established. After the war was finished, many nations searched for ways to keep the peace.

To reduce the number of immigrants coming to the United States, legislators there agreed to create a new passport.

In 1921, they also passed the Immigration Act (also known as the Emergency Quota Act). The statute limited the number of immigrants from any other nation that might be admitted.

The cap was set at 3% of the total yearly immigration from the same nation (such as France) to the United States. It’s interesting to note that according to Census Bureau estimates, the number of new immigrants allowed into the country decreased from 805,228 in 1920 to 309,556 in 1921–1922.

The first passport in history, known as “Old Blue,” was issued in 1920 as a result of a League of Nations decision to start standardizing passports. The format for Old Blue was established in the later part of 1920, even after the World War was over.

At a meeting in France, the League of Nations decided on the dimensions, layout, and appearance of passports for 42 countries. 1947 saw yet another revision to the passport.

The league made Old Blue a 32-page document by adding to it. The actual dimensions of the template for the 32-page booklet were 15.5 cm x 4.1 in. The first four pages of that first book had the owner’s name, address, and face features.

There were some suppositions regarding the owner in the layout of the passport. The booklet had spaces for the names of his children as well as a box for the spouse’s picture. This was covered by the assumption that each passport holder was a married man going on a family vacation.

At least one page of the passport was in a language other than French, but the remainder was written in French.

Finally, a cardboard cover with the nation’s name and coat of arms in the center was attached. A traveler would need to pay 10 francs for this new pamphlet.

Until a burgundy-colored passport was approved in 1988, the Old Blue passport was still in use. It had undergone a few adjustments throughout the years, but this was the first time it had been replaced.
