Honda thinks that HBCUs have a special and important role in giving the Black population access to higher education and career prospects. The choice to collaborate with 58 HBCUs on a COVID-19 alleviation effort in 2020 was made simple by Honda’s relationship with and dedication to Black institutions and universities. Honda provided $325,000 to HBCUs that took part, with the money coming from the diverted 2020 Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. This money was used to support 108 organizations throughout 20 states. More than 200,000 students have benefited from Honda efforts over the past 30 years, and HBCUs have received over $14 million in grants as a consequence.

On Saturday, January 25, the Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) celebrated its return to Atlanta with electrifying performances by eight of the finest HBCU marching bands in the country and a special concert by R&B singer-songwriter Tank. More than 58,000 HBCU supporters, students, and alumni gathered to watch the celebration of HBCU tradition, musical prowess, and spectacle.
The 17th anniversary HBOB theme, “Be the Dream,” emphasized the ability of dreams to motivate people to work for a better future. More than 2,400 musicians and dancers got together on the field for the opening number, which featured soulful performances by all eight bands. A tribute to Atlanta by Florida A&M, a vote-reminder by Tennessee State University, and the warm welcome of Dr. Nikole Roebuck of Grambling State University, the first female band director to conduct at HBOB, were among the other highlights.
