In Ole Red’s “Beginning on Aug. 19 and continuing through Dec. 9, the Battle of the Bands series offered fans the chance to enjoy live music in venues in Nashville, Gatlinburg, Tishomingo, and Orlando, as well as streamed via Facebook live. Each week across venues, fans cast votes for their preferred performer to determine the champion. Whichever of this year’s winning acts garnered the most fan votes was chosen as the grand champion. On Wednesday, December 9, Bryan Malpass, who was performing from Ole Red Orlando, was named the winner of Ole Red’s Battle of the Bands 2020 series.

The World Famous Tiger Marching Band from Grambling State and the Jukebox each played five rounds, with each round getting progressively more exciting. The show was accessible to and enjoyable by viewers of all ages.

Rondreka Zenon, a sophomore, had never gone through anything like this. “I enjoy listening to the musicians perform at halftime, but this was hardly a halftime show. Tyran Williams, a freshman, participated in his first Bayou Classic game. I wouldn’t give my experience participating in my first classic for anything in the world. One of the nicest feelings in the world was marching out and performing the Funk Train. One of the largest achievements one may make as a member of the Human Jukebox is to become an official band member.
Many people attended the Bayou Classic for the first time ever this year. Kailey Glass, a freshman, stated, “I had always imagined this moment. I knew I had to go to the Bayou Classic the moment I made the decision to enroll at The Southern University. It was really amazing to hear our band perform. I felt incredible watching the audience clap and sing along. Although both bands were fantastic, we already know that Southern has the nation’s top band.
The Jukebox had a busy week that began with them performing in the Buffalo Bills vs. New Orleans Saints game’s halftime show. To hear more of Southern University’s band, keep an eye out for further forthcoming concerts. The band is bursting with excitement and surprises.
Who won the School of Rock Battle of the Bands?
They participated in a Battle of the Bands some time after booting Dewey out, performing their song “Heal Me,” while Dewey and his band, “The School of Rock,” watched from backstage.
