The fifth and last version of the front-wheel-drive Prelude coupe made its debut in 1997, and it included the Type SH, or Super Handling, variant and its brand-new Active Torque Transfer System at the time (ATTS). In order to better distribute the engine’s torque to the car’s outside front tire during cornering, ATTS, which is unique to the Type SH, included a hydraulically actuated planetary gearset in its differential and a controller that keeps track of speed, steering angle, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate sensors. Although the setup aims to deliver more impartial handling, we weren’t immediately persuaded. Although we gave the Honda excellent marks for handling in a road test in November 1996, the system’s usefulness was questioned in light of the extra 44 pounds it added to the vehicle. The system failed midway through our track testing in a 1997 test for the greatest handling in vehicles under $30,000, but the Prelude’s performance didn’t appear to change. We continued anyhow and soon realized that, whatever it was we were missing, we weren’t really missing anything. Nevertheless, the Prelude triumphed over a Mazda Miata and a BMW 318ti to claim the victory.
Our reservations haven’t changed in 20 years. The Prelude severely understeers when entering turns on the narrow mountain roads north of Malibu, and no amount of trail braking seems to be able to turn its back end. Although the Honda has a bad front-to-rear weight balance, it loves to turn on the power. On its front wheels, it transports 63.1 percent of the 3035 pounds it weighs. The car’s 12-volt battery is located well behind the right headlight, and its 2.2-liter inline-four is situated well ahead of the front axle below the bulky hood. How does AT&T transmission work?
ATTS vectored torque, as the name suggests. The ATTS unit can be thought of as a very small automatic gearbox that is connected to the vehicle’s differential in its most basic form. The ATTS unit transfers torque to the wheel that needs it the most through a sequence of clutches to maximize traction. The vehicle uses steering angle sensors to calculate the angle of the wheel, yaw and G sensors to compute the load, and ABS sensors to assess wheel slip. The ATTS computer receives all of that data and uses it in conjunction with the ECU to calculate the best torque a wheel can receive. The ATTS engages the clutches after deciding on the output. The system reacts in a matter of milliseconds.
What exactly are Atts?
ATTS was founded to:
- Work toward the improvement of all dog breeds.
- Hold seminars to educate dog breeders, owners, and evaluators (testers) about the psychology, motivation, and other facets of temperament testing in dogs.
- To examine the temperament of purebred and spayed/neutered mixed-breed dogs, establish a uniform nationwide program.
- Dogs that successfully complete the temperament test requirements are recognized and given certificates.
- Decide on, prepare, train, and register temperament assessors.

Alfons Ertel established ATTS in 1977. The first test was administered in September 1977, and as of the end of 2012, ATTS had administered 1,272 tests. As of April 2016, 33,925 dogs had been tested, and 28,295 of those received TT titles. The pass percentage varies for various breeds and is 83.4 percent on average overall. The temperament of the breed, training, health, and age of the dog are all taken into consideration. The exam requires canines to be at least 18 months old.

In reality, the Honda Prelude received favorable reviews for being a reasonable, entertaining, and highly capable sports coupe throughout all of its iterations. For instance, I have fond memories of experiencing the precise handling and thrilling VTEC power delivery of a fourth generation Honda Prelude SiR.
The fifth generation Prelude was offered in a wide range of trims and combinations, similar to the majority of Japanese automobiles of the time, depending on where in the globe you were buying it and how much you wanted to pay.
