The 2024 Honda Prologue electric SUV, the brand’s first battery-electric car to be offered in the US, has already been teased with a teaser image. In an effort to dispel concerns that it has been behind its competitors in implementing an EV strategy, the business also bragged about its hybrid vehicles.
The Ultium battery packs from General Motors will be used in the first of two vehicles that Honda is co-developing with the American automaker. The second vehicle, which will also be jointly developed with GM and bear the Acura badge, hasn’t yet received any new information from the manufacturer. The Prologue, which will go on sale in 2024, also ushers in the first of 30 hybrid, battery-powered, and fuel-cell vehicles that Honda claims will be made available by 2030.
These EVs will be constructed using a range of EV architectures that Honda is developing, some of which were developed in conjunction with General Motors. The GM Ultium platform, which also powers the Hummer EV pickup truck and Cadillac Lyriq SUV, will serve as the foundation for the construction of the Honda Prologue and Acura EV. GM is a Detroit-based carmaker.
The Honda e architecture, which the company intends to release in 2026, will be used to construct Honda’s additional electric vehicles.
The Honda E architecture, which the company intends to release in 2026, will form the foundation for Honda’s other electric vehicles. Honda intends to release a variety of “cheap EVs, one of which is a small SUV. These cars will be built on a brand-new EV architecture that it is jointly creating with GM.
60,000 Prologue SUVs will be sold in the US by Honda in 2024, 70,000 in 2025, and 300,000 in 2026, according to Mamadou Diallo, vice president of sales for American Honda Motor. In a broader sense, the business claims that by 2030, 40%, 80%, and 100% of its sales, respectively, will be made up of battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles.
The Prologue is borrowing some subtle design inspirations from the beloved Honda E city car, as can be seen in the teaser image. Honda also highlights the car’s small overhang, or the length of the body that extends beyond the wheelbase, and its long wheelbase. Together with a design team in Japan, the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles created the Prologue.
“We wanted to make sure that Prologue is a true representation of a Honda EV while also fitting in with the rest of our SUV lineup, according to Diallo.
In comparison to other automakers, Honda’s present electric lineup is incredibly small. The business just stopped selling its Clarity EV, but it will still sell the vehicle’s hydrogen and plug-in hybrid variants. Additionally, only Japan and Europe sell the Honda E.

Why doesn’t the USA have a Honda e?
It’s actually rather straightforward, as Car and Driver noted. Honda believes that Americans are evaluating factors like range and affordability when thinking about the EV market. The Honda e does not measure up to other EV choices in those areas. The Honda e’s size may also deter Americans from purchasing one, as the vehicle is unquestionably too small for the American auto industry.
Honda decided not to market an EV in the United States because it believes few Americans would buy one, which is a relatively logical conclusion. Honda aficionados in the United States are out of luck for the time being because the Honda e is the company’s only electric vehicle under production. Despite this, American Honda fans will soon have the opportunity to purchase a Honda EV. Honda intends to build two new EVs in 2024, which explains why.
There isn’t much information available regarding those upcoming Honda EVs, but the Prologue will undoubtedly be an SUV. Given that SUVs are much more popular in the United States than sedans, this makes a lot of sense.
In the US, does Honda sell electric vehicles?
- It has been said that Honda manufactures internal combustion engines and offers them in a range of configurations. For Honda, this makes the switch to battery-electric vehicles particularly difficult.
- Three Honda executives unveiled ideas for a variety of future plug-in automobiles on Monday.
According to the headline, Honda—which currently only sells one EV, the Honda e, a subcompact car unavailable in North America—will introduce 30 electric vehicles across the globe by 2030. Out of the usual annual Honda production of 5 million units, their combined volume will be more than 2 million. Remember that this is coming from a firm whose later Clarity Electric mid-size sedan was withdrawn from the market when its EPA-rated range of 89 miles proven to be uncompetitive and its compliance-car Fit EV manufacturing was limited to 1400 units.
Two “sporty” EVs, one of which will be the replacement for the recently discontinued Acura NSX, will be included in the 30 future electric vehicles. However, in line with the trend of the worldwide market, anticipate that the majority of the new EVs will be crossover utilities.

In terms of size, we anticipate the new model to fall between the HR-V and the popular Jazz Crosstar model, which accounts for more than 50% of all Jazz sales.
We previously had confirmation from Honda’s head of engineering that an all-electric small SUV will follow the e hatchback soon and would be based on the same platform. Expect a similarly futuristic interior to the Honda e’s in the new model, with dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays plus a couple of six-inch monitors at either side relaying a video feed from cameras in place of door mirrors. However, those underpinnings will need to be stretched to incorporate a larger body and respectable-sized boot.
However, we would anticipate a larger battery than the e’s 35.5kWh unit to give a range of more than 200 miles, as well as similar fast-charging capacity to the smaller car. There is no information yet on what technology may be under the skin.
